GMG Arkham Knight Refunds

Following news that sales have been suspended for Batman: Arkham Knight, the GMG & Playfire Community Blog announces that in addition to halting sales of the superhero sequel, they are also offering refunds to those who purchased it from them. Just yesterday they announced they would offer refunds to those who could still not play the game after an upcoming patch to address complaints, but they are no longer waiting. Here's word:
WBIE also confirmed to us by email that "those customers who have already activated the game will be able to play the game during this time and will automatically be updated to the new version when it is available." So if you don't request a refund, you'll still be able to play the game even though it's been removed from sale. We're big fans of Warner Bros here at Green Man Gaming, they make some absolutely fantastic games and will continue to do so, and we have every faith that they will do all they can to make Batman: Arkham Knight on PC the best it can be.

To update our earlier statement regarding refunds for this title, all refund requests will be honoured as per WBIE's request. If you would like to submit a request for a refund for this title, please contact our helpdesk by clicking here and submitting a support ticket. We thank you in advance for your patience in this regard we'll be dealing with every ticket we receive as swiftly as possible.

I got in touch with Newegg who agreed to send it up the chain to see what happens. I suspect they might just credit my account for $50 or something though. Worth a shot anyway, I can live without playing this for awhile.

Yeah that's pretty much what I gathered from this.

Oh wait, I forgot some of you guys are too smart and too awesome to either just shut up or participate in a valid discussion. Instead -- and I should've known, my fault! -- of course you guys resort to petty and demeaning insults.

If you have me on ignore, Verno, be a man and shut up about my comments. I swear, that pathetic elitist mentality taints this place.

The previous game Origins still has a lot of bugs. They patched the biggest game breaking bugs and told fans to expect no more fixes, they were now spending all their time on DLC. I don't see how a rational person can give them the benefit of the doubt when they release an even more broken game the next time around. This thing doesn't need a patch, it needs an overhaul on par with if not bigger than AC:Unity did. It isn't just performance there is stuff completely missing from the game that is present on consoles. Something like that doesn't get fixed quickly.

There's still people defending this monstrosity of a port? Wow. Better have these publishers abandon the PC market once and for all rather than having shitty port after shitty port thrown at us.

And considering that PC gaming is now at this point selling more than the Xbone, it's highly doubtful they'll even consider abandoning the very lucrative PC market.

Also, it seems Nvidia has lied to us, releasing a sped up trailer of the game to fool us into thinking the game was 60fps fluid.

Wow, some of you are really emotionally laden because you obviously nit-picked what I said earlier. I said that the game is a mess. I agreed wih it wholeheartedly. My point was that before the refund policy, the noise would never have gotten this loud, a patch or two would be released and 95% would be happy.

Programming for PC is a horror. I can't speak from experience but I've read interviews with developers. It's because of all the hundreds of different hardware setups and software. A company can never 100% be certain their game will run perfectly on all PC setups -- they need to get post-release feedback patch stuff up. With the refund policy, I believe publishers/developers get hit irrationally hard due to this.

Sure, despite the fact the game does run flawless on my rig now... I do see it's a bad optimized game. My point: It's nothing a patch can't fix and all this deafening noise is crazy.

4th in series
Common engine
Pc excuse given is over a decade old

I only played the first. I bought it many months after release and had to shelf it for sound 3 months. They tried to ignore, one long ass thread, finally recognized and fixed for me.

Some of these larger publishers take their sweet ole time, you get a patch our two and then never look back.

What does that matter? Who made who? The bad port is what triggered whatever has come its way. I think most are dumb pre-ordering when the series even though their 4th attempt, hasn't imo had one great launch. But then now they do have Steam Insurance where they haven't in the past. It still goes back to whoever is in charge of this, that is where the problem lies, if it brings trolls, well they invited them. 12 people 8 weeks, 12 people maybe, 8 weeks? GTFO!

Doing what some of the childish idiots on the Steam forums have been doing is pathetic. Supporting them is just as pathetic.

If you are unhappy, place a refund and move on. Trolling about it serves no purpose other than to prove people right about how childish some gamers can be.

All the bitching from the PC gaming community over this is going to kill the PC gaming community. Lucky we even got a port in this day and age.

The stockholm syndrome evident in a few people here is hilarious. Do you think companies give a shit about what you say? They care about your money, nothing else. We aren't lucky to get a port. They are lucky to obtain your dollars. Have a clue about your own consumer buying power man, I know this is the height of corporate power in the world but jesus christ. No one is going to leave money on the table in this multi-platform dependent market and PC gaming is on the rise again. Shades of 2004 all over again, wahhhh PC gaming is dying blahblahblah. No its just fine and if a publisher stops supporting it then others will serve that market happily. Just like Ubisoft was going to stop releasing games because of 'whining' about DRM?

The game is missing visual effects from the console version, it is having problems across a wide variety of configs and the publisher itself admitted there is a problem. They are going to re-release it after it gets fixed up, no one is leaving a 95% complete product that could earn revenue out in limbo.

Companies don't like the ideas of refunds? Fucking make a working game, how can you not like refunds? Are you stupid?

When people preorder games they get all defensive and invested in their stupid opinions about it. The result is a lot of blame shifting and bullshit. The game runs fine for me, I could get all angry at the people 'whining' but I realize that there are a huge number of users having problems so I'm not going to defend that terrible release.

This is my huge fear, and i'm fucking stunned hardly anyone seems to realize this. I'd rather like it to be like the old days, one major fuck up port here and there.. another game needing a big patch every now and then.. It sucked but hey, worth the sacrifice of being a PC gamer.

With this refund shit, every impatient fucking moron can just press the refund button any time and my god will it hurt developers more and more before the gaming community will see the fruits of it -- if they ever will and not get completely abandoned first.

I dunno, with publicly traded companies NOT porting to PC could be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Proven profitable, if they refuse to port their shareholders could sue for reduced profit. It may not be AS profitable with a proper port, but it is still profitable.

No, it wont be.

Only the worst of the worst releases risk being a commercial failure because of too much refunds. And thats exactly the business practice we dont want to see anymore on the PC. Anyone else ... when your game is not a complete desaster, you dont have to fear refunds. In fact, people are now being able to take more risks. In the end, with refunds people will spend MORE than without. It is a proven policy in other industry sectors, it will be in the games industry.

Well, lets actually be honest here. Let be really, really clear: A HUGE PART OF THIS FIASCO is the typical PC community cry-baby motherfucking whining. "I want a great looking game to run great on my 2+ years old rig!". Let it be known that the game is gorgeous -- is this mentioned anywhere? The amount of detail is crazy amazing. People with a killer GPU and SSD run this game smoothly too (me too I expect if I redownload it). So is it really such a fiasco? Lets get our feet on the ground and chew on it for a minute... Because, fuck me, the game is gorgeous.

In the days before refunds, this would've been a period of whining.. then a patch.. then everybody happy. Today it's people going crazy, a company getting hit so hard it falls to its knees, and a patch that makes everybody happy except for the company who's rep is raped.

I just don't like this.

They literally recommended 2-year-old hardware for this game, the GeForce GTX 760. Isn't looking great and running great what "Recommended System Requirements" are supposed to represent? Even people with better hardware than that are/were still having issues.

It remains to be seen how strict Valve will be with refunds, what they consider to be abuse, but anyone would has a pattern of buying, negatively reviewing and refunding games to punish publishers will surely find themselves refused refunds pretty darn quick.

I agree with you about refunds, Rattlehead, but you should check your attitude to other posters.

Blow me please. I don't get how you can be against refunds. It's not impatient morons you twat, it's companies fucking release half assed broken shit and expecting to take our money and run. No, sorry not anymore, now we have a guarantee to our hard earned money being well spent. It's not "impatient morons" It's customers who fucking spent money who have the right to a working game. This doesn't work. This barely qualifies as a beta with many graphical features missing and HORRIBLE performance across the board.

Companies don't like the ideas of refunds? Fucking make a working game, how can you not like refunds? Are you stupid?

There is no "sacrifice." It's called making a fucking working game.

No? The game is utterly broken and sold in a non working state. Nothing they advertised is there. It's not bitching you fucking moron. Before the days of refund they would just take our money and run, and maybe 1 or 2 patches that would fix a fraction of the issues. But no, now they actually have to have some fucking guarantee.

I don't get how you can say you don't like refunds. This isn't the first time this shit has happened but no customers can actually have the right to their money back. Remember Sword of the Stars 2? WarZ? I can go on and on.

If a company doesn't want to fall to it's knees and have it's reputation raped maybe they should oh I don't know RELEASE A FUCKING WORKING PRODUCT.

Oh your playing the cry baby card to!

Lets see my 2 year old HW is stronger than a console and it seems no matter how low some go with settings it just isn't preforming like it should. Bad port is bad. No need imo to defend, they've admitted and pulled it down while it gets reworked.

He isn't talking black and whites. This isn't ALL about the game. There are problems, yes. It needs optimization, yes. But there is a vocal minority just trolling this shit to make things worse or at least appear worse than they actually are. Others are just dumb and follow along.

I said this in the last post...but I'll say it again. The product wasn't pulled out of the goodness of their hearts. It was pulled to stop people from purchasing and refunding it. Every single time it costs them money.

Game runs great on my, admittedly, new machine. I will say, goddamn the facial animation is terrible. It's circa 2002. Half the time, Batman's lips never move. And when they do, his face never deforms. It reminds me of the original Deus Ex.

Other than that, super fun awesome game.
