Fallout 4 in November

Bethesda ended tonight's presentation showing off Fallout 4, their upcoming RPG sequel. This highlights how far along things are, as they show off the character creation system, how SPECIAL traits are assigned, and other gameplay elements. They also show off some gameplay, and highlight the capabilities of the new graphics engine. They say this most ambitious game environment they've ever made, including the ruins of downtown Boston. They also show off the actual Pip-Boy that will be included in a collector's edition, which includes second screen functions, which will also be available on mobile devices (they also showed off a new free mobile Fallout spin-off game which should be available this evening). The complete the Fallout demonstration by showing a new crafting system to allow you to scrap items to create items and structures for an environment more to your post-apocalyptic liking, demonstrating seemingly endless combinations of weapons and armor, saying all that effort is to support all the effort they put into the combat system. They capped off the festivities saying the game will be released on November 10th of this year.

That E3 video of Fallout 4. Those people cheering at the most dumb and unimpressive stuff we've already seen done 7 years ago... it's /facepalm all the way.

Don't get me wrong: I want this game. I loved Fallout 3 and I see they're not trying to reinvent the wheel so yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll like this game too. Will it impress me like Fallout 3 did? Certainly not, I can safely presume. What's my problem then? Isn't it obvious? It's a glorified EXPANSION PACK! "How can you tell?" You ask? Well, we watched the same video, haven't we?

The crafting an entire settlement thing just looks fun as hell. I can't wait to build a monstrously fortified Yankee Stadium in the middle of fucking Boston.

I dunno. I don't care about graphics. I want the Fallout gameplay. New Vegas rubbed that itch pretty solidly, but this game isn't made by Obsidian. Somehow Bethesda always managed to get the atmosphere and setting 'right' with their Elder Scrolls games, but Fallout3 was very hit and miss. More miss than hit really.

Sort of like a famous comedian telling bad jokes. Doesn't get much worse than that...

Yeah, that would need to be very carefully culled to solely allow for mods that alter UI and things like that. Something like Mart's Monster Mod would make an Xbone not even power on.

Key phrase here is in this case may be carefully culled. There are definitely talented modders out there for console games, but Betheseda may be targeting people that don't understand how modding works and to make it easier... you gotta pay. This is me being cynical/pessimistic about Beth, and really I hope my assumption is wrong.

Modding certain aspects of this FO4 rendition is going to be a little more difficult. For instance, dialogue is voiced and on a wheel of sorts. So trying to 'fix' persay the dialogue and add detailed conversations or whatever could be rather difficult.

After thinking about it, FO4 reminds me of Mass Effect 1 and RAGE.

Sadly, Bethesda isn't really well known for releasing better looking PC versions of their stuff. It's always the same game across all platforms. :\

(Okay, at least they released a somewhat decent HD texture pack for Skyrim, so hopefully with the 8+ million PC sales of Skyrim, they've decided to put more than 0 cents of effort into their PC port.)

I still believe that the version they showed of last night was on the Xbox. The buttons they had pooping up on the screen where clearly Xbox button from a controller. Does the PC version give you those options to when using the controller? Cant comment on that because I despise controllers for any FPS game.

Thanks siapnar and Blue. I did a little search and found footage posted elsewhere.

gameplay intro
kill montage

The kill montage kind of rubbed me the wrong way, since they made it seem more 'actiony' like a mixture of RAGE/COD/etc. And the "VATS" appears to be slow motion now, instead of 100% paused combat but they didn't showcase it that much which was odd and focused more in favor of action. I'm sure that will be great for others, but I guess for me Fallout is about thinking it through/strategy, etc. No confirmation if there is an alternate combat mode.

I think the older I become, I feel more like Theoden.

They really need to showcase the story more, when they didn't want to "spoil" anything for FO3, it turned out to be sort of 'meh' for the ending purpose. Like if I make my character really dumb, will the character talk like an idiot and grunt a lot? Will voiced dialogue mean less dialogue choices/reading?

Clearly a lot of people are very easily impressed. I, for one, am not. Looks like this will be the first Fallout title I'll be skipping. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with Fallout except share the name. It looks like a bad Saints Row mod more than anything else. It looks like ass. And as usual Bethsoft champions style over substance. Which is fine for a game like DOOM, not for what's supposed to be a CRPG like Fallout. Welp, at least Witcher 3 delivered in a massive way. Wake me after 2 years, a million mods, and a $5 GOTY sale and I may just give this a whirl at that point.

Sorry Brother, but we are on opposite sides of the fence on this one.

Its not that I'm easily impressed. I just happen to love these type of games, I love Post Apocalyptic style games with endless exploring. so that's why I'm on board day one. and bought the Collectors. having the Pip Boy will be something that you can keep and most likely it will be worth a lot to someone some day. I will keep this in pristine condition like I do with a lot of these types of things.

Have a great day

If he thinks it's so bad, why play it at all? Cutterlogic is logic for Cutters.
