Free Content Coming to Gauntlet

A recent post to the Arrowhead blog discusses plans for a free content update coming to Gauntlet, their hack-and-slash dungeon crawler (thanks PC Gamer). Game Director Emil Englund explains that this will bring the game more in line with their original vision:
In truth, we were never fully satisfied with how Gauntlet turned out. So, rather than just fixing little things here and there, we have been working on the core of the game to turn it into what we originally envisioned.

This will mean a free major content update for the game, including improvements to the Campaign and the Colosseum as well as a brand new game mode. Iím pretty sure I was allowed to tell you about the game modeÖ

Additionally, Arrowhead is taking over management of the Gauntlet online communities from now on. You can talk to us directly on the Gauntlet Steam forum, Gauntletís Facebook page and @playgauntlet Twitter.

This game was a pile of shit that just plied peoples nostalgia. They brought almost nothing new to the table, the shared camera was obnoxious and the levels were completely linear, not to mention boring as fuck.

By far the biggest waste of cash I've dropped on a Steam game recently.

I don't think there's any amount of randomness to it at all. I played it for all of a few days, but after that it was impossible to find a game where you didn't get instantly thrown out if the people in it didn't know you.

This was the second biggest waste of money i've spent on a game in the last 12 months. The biggest, was the $3 I spent on the new pac-man game. That only lasted me about 30 minutes.

You know what this game needs? Mods and editors to keep it popular and alive.

Specifically a level editor.

The whole point of gauntlet was going through seemingly endless dungeons. This new version of the game, has a serious lack thereof.

User created dungeons would fix this.
Does this game even have a map randomizer like Diablo?

Such a bland, short, easily forgettable game.

So pretty much the complete opposite to the original game.

Is this the patch that makes it fun?

It's very fun. You have have to understand the way each class works, the patience required to time your abilities, and obviously you need to get into good co op games.

There isn't much fun going solo in this one and I can't even remember the last time I went solo as multi is where the real meat of this game is at.

It seems very simple at first glance, but once you get into it, there is some depth to be found. Something I didn't figure out immediately.

Hope so, just bought it for $6 with this news. Played a little, looks to be a good 4-player local coop game on the HTPC.

What the hell?

This is very surprising news. I thought the game was solid enough once you get into it and understand the class mechanics and how the game's progression works.

I put in 56 hours to the game so far with the majority of that, multi of course.

As everyone unlocked and earned everything possible, the online has died down a bit but they still have some challenge maps that are seasonal that let you earn new capes. I check-in once in a while to get those.

Hearing there might be new content for a game that has already been out for some time and I thought I was completely done with? Awesome to hear!
