New update 1.04 for The Witcher 3 is out. I've solved my earlier issues with both The Witcher 3 and GTA5. Spent nearly all night last night playing both with no problems whatsoever! The solution? Updated my BIOS from it's default original to one released in 2012 (which apparently supports my SSD and RAM much better, since SSD's were a new-ish thing back when this system was originally built in 2010) and slightly underclocked my RAM from 1600 down past it's default of 1333 to 1066. I also set my CPU to it's default 20x multiplier (at 2.66ghz) from what it's been running since being built, 21x (2.8ghz). These changes fixed Windows7 BSOD'ing randomly like five times a day (since it's installed on my 40gb Intel X-25 SSD), The Witcher 3 crashing out after 10 minutes and GTA5 crashing out after 10-15 minutes. The only problem I ran into was The Witcher 3's notorious 'minimizing bug', where the screen tried to minimize itself to the taskbar over and over for about a minute. Then it stops and you can continue playing. This is a known issue that hopefully this new patch corrects. My thanks go to those that gave suggestions in a previous thread, Quinn - InBlack - Retired, much appreciated! Salute

Damn! You had a lot more issues than just the game! Glad you got everything worked out, but sucks you had to deal with all of that.

My favourite Horror/SciFi movie of all time, bar none. The effects still look great for the most part and the setting and performances are all on point.

Good to hear. Enjoy the game(s), and let us know which you think is better and why. (W3 in my book)

So Memorial Day is for US soldiers and Veterans Day is for all soldiers? How odd.

Memorial Day is for US veterans who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Veterans Day is for US veterans in general.

The difference is from the origin of the holidays. Memorial day got its origins from the US Civil War, and distinctly American fight. Veterans Day's origins come from Armistice Day, the ending of W.W. I.

Ahh thanks for the clarification. Just always thought it was odd having 2 different holidays for vets. Still a day off is always welcome regardless of its origin.

Over at IO9, they posted an interview of John Carpenter by David Letterman about The Thing (starts at around the 34:00 mark right after Elaine Boosler). Takeaways:

- Forgot how sharp Letterman used to be
- Carpenter is very down to earth
- They discuss the practical effects which many of us here appreciate.

If you haven't seen The Thing in a while it really holds up. Antarctica is still a pretty low tech place (saw Antarctica A Year On Ice recently) and the movie feels like it could take place today. It remains one of the greatest sci fi horror films ever made.

whats Poppy Day for?

The end of WW1, it's called "Remembrance day" here in Canada (locally west coast, others might use poppy day). WW1 ended hostilities on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11 month, and we commemorate their service on that date.
