Open Source MAME

A tweet from MAME announces this popular emulator software is going open source, saying: "MAME is going open source, if you have contributed in past and we still did not contact you please contact us at mamedev@mamedev.org." Gamasutra has more on the plan after chatting with MAME engineer Miodrag Milanovic. "There was intention to do this for years," Milanovic tells them. "Our aim is to help legal license owners in distributing their games based on MAME platform, and to make MAME become a learning tool for developers working on development boards."

I bet that requires a ping of 30 or below to be even remotely playable.

Actually I've played it with connections of over 100 ms, and as long as youre not playing super competitive twitch fighting games, it works quite well. Played through a couple of the metal slugs with my buddy from alaska, and I've played through a couple games with folks from brazil and japan, with my 20mb cable internet here in the midwest, USA.
