Open Source MAME

A tweet from MAME announces this popular emulator software is going open source, saying: "MAME is going open source, if you have contributed in past and we still did not contact you please contact us at mamedev@mamedev.org." Gamasutra has more on the plan after chatting with MAME engineer Miodrag Milanovic. "There was intention to do this for years," Milanovic tells them. "Our aim is to help legal license owners in distributing their games based on MAME platform, and to make MAME become a learning tool for developers working on development boards."

Played bubble bobble in an arcade down in Daytona Beach, Florida when I was a kid and was hooked, was always one of my favorite games for NES after I eventually got it for that.

MAME rocks, so much dedication and time put into making sure these machines are faithfully able to be emulated on machines of all sizes.

I'll have to check out this RetroArch/Kodi thing that was mentioned here as I already use Kodi with the 1Channel addon for watching shows & movies, but having a emulation frontend baked in would be awesome!

Also have to give a mention to my buddy who has been making MameHUB for a while now, which allows you to play most of the MAME/MESS library of games (even SNES titles!) online with friends:

MameHUB rocks. It needs to get bigger and more popular!!! We need more old school gamers so we can play Gauntlet, Rampage, Operation Thunderbolt, fighting games, etc.
