This. I can't even believe this is being discussed or that somehow it's the 'attitude' of the people involved that actually matters in the difference between Open Source vs Everything Else. Jesus, this aint Scientology vs Radical Evangelism for fucks sake.

Both Axis and Silicon Avatar have valid points:

Likewise, there is a certain segment of the FOSS and OSS communities that need to grow the Hell up and comport themselves with professionalism. You wouldn't catch Red Hat, for example, acting like some devs do.

Good to know at least one senator hasn't been bought off by the ISPs. Glad he's opposing this deal.

Yeah, sure. That's same attitude that drives people out of open source.

It's a crappy attitude. Software can be properly engineered without it. It's a type of locker-room machismo BS that way too many nerds and geeks buy into.

The point of the article was that Open Source projects have some leaders with attitude problems and that leads many developers to simply exit and quit contributing - which is the opposite of what you want to happen.

Linus Torvald yelling and throwing middle fingers around is the same alpha-dog attitude BS behavior everyone made fun of Steve Ballmer for.

Ignored bugs is what everyone makes fun of MS for.

Seems like some parallels are stacking up here.

Open Source Software Model broken?

I just skimmed the article and the guy who wrote it is a microsoft fanatic who has something against libreoffice and open source in general.

Open source is the reason we have any real windows/apple competition, android, linux, firefox, libre, most of google's library of free incredible softwares, etc.

Open source is the best thing that ever happened in the software world, the alternative would be Apple and MS paten trolling everything imaginable.

So Derrick feel free to stick with your windows phone and expensive bloatware office suite and kick back with microsoft in your pocket, but you don't know jack.
Yours truly,

Axis
