We do need alternative search engines but unfortunately Bing isn't a viable one. I tried switching a few months ago and it was an exercise in frustration, somehow they have even more commercial bias and just less useful links overall.

Well, we do need alternative search engines. Google has already revealed they're looking into sorting results not by popularity, but by what THEY determine to be the most relevant. The most "accurate" or "factual." That is an incredibly slippery slope that everyone should be worried about. A website might as well not even exist if it doesn't show up in a Google search... what's to stop them from deciding this one or that one is unsavory or not very flattering of their [political] allies, and burying it? If they're not already doing shit like that already.

Just this week, they'll be enacting a bias toward mobile sites when searching from a mobile device, which means something like Blue's News will be WAY less likely to show up at all if you googled "PC gaming news" from your phone.

If Google fell off the planet I could use Bing and not notice too terribly much. They all do roughly the same thing. Of course I think Pepsi and Coke are about the same too so..

Interesting that it has grown so much. I on rare occasions use it if I can't find what I'm looking for in google, or to see if their image search will return different results for what I'm searching, but it's not 20% of the time for sure.

Interestingly I read the other day that more than 90% of internet searches in Europe are on Google.
