Star Citizen Version 1.1

The Roberts Space Industries website announces that Star Citizen version 1.1 is now live, a major update that will require backers to reinstall the space combat game in its entirety. The new version adds new ships to buy, a new manual, new controls, and new systems, including takeoffs and landings. Cloud Imperium also introduces the ability to rent ships and components using REC earned within public Arena Commander matches. Here's a summary of new systems:
Most importantly, Star Citizen 1.1 includes the launch of a number of new systems. Some, like the 64-bit conversion, are entirely ‘under the hood,’ while others are available for use today. The game now includes a new character rig, with smoother and better animations. The new dynamic damage system has been launched with the Gladius, and will eventually be applied to all old and new ships. Arena Commander also now features a landing system (detailed below), a new Mounts system with the introduction of Gimbal Mounts to the store and, likely most interesting for today’s pilot, the launch of the REC system. This is our first pass at rental credits, aimed to allow payment-free progression in Arena Commander. You can expect plenty of balancing in the coming days, so get out there and provide your feedback! As promised, all existing backers will get 5,000 REC to start things off!

You can see the entire change list in the 1.1 patch notes here.

How do we have version 1.1 (not a beta) when the game isn't released. *sigh* Numbering of versions in a lot of games has annoyed me of late.

Sadly, Star Citizen is far from having a monopoly on bogus version numbering schemes.

I wonder what version it will be at when (if?) it becomes a fun, playable game. 1.5? 2.0? 36.0.4?

From what I understand, the way it went was they had the module Arena Commander, which was just the dogfighting part of the game. That went from 0.9 to 1.0. But now the groundwork has been added in for more modules that will also be added into the full game like the planetside Social Module and the FPS module. So the name Arena Commander didn't suffice any more for what it was going to be. So they instead of Arena Commander 1.1 they went with Star Citizen 1.1.

Exactly sorta what I was gonna post. Really don't like the way they're running their show. Guess it makes money, but I get the feeling there will be a lot of unfulfilled dreams at the end.

Version numbers are meaningless. Do I care that Chrome is version 41? No, I care whether it's a decent browser. CIG doesn't make any money by calling it 1.1 instead of 0.1 or 0.0001.

Some people really do get worked up about meaningless shit.

What people should be moaning about is the fact that the new download system required uninstalling the game and redownloading it all again. People should be annoyed that the original upload for 1.1 was corrupted, meaning that downloads had to be reset. People should be annoyed despite that issue being fixed the install still crapped out at the end, with the workaround to be enabling patch repair under settings. People should be annoyed that the online multiplayer is broken, with CIG advising people not to bother until Monday.

But sure, let's complain about the version numbers. Wall2

PS - After all the trouble it's a decent update, it's just it was badly handled.

All that stuff happening is, of course, completely unacceptable for a retail release. That's why we need to remember this is still a project in development. Given that, it's not really worth moaning over at all if you're understanding of what you're taking part of. Shit's gonna break, or not work, and that's just how it is for now.

If they pull a "BF4" or "AC:Unity" some other similar giant fuck up at retail launch as well, then THAT will be worth throwing a few stones over.

With the amount of money that has been pumped into this game, you would of thought that it be for the gamers and instead its a greedy p2w game.

I played that free optimised alpha that was on offer and I have to say that candy eyed bits were candy eyed, then the loading started zzZZzz. The game roared and I found myself floating around and after a while flying around comfortably, but when shooting at the enemy I thought 80million dollars and all I am doing is shooting at dots!

Boring and uninstalled!

Absolutely. It's a minor grumble for what is shaping up to be an excellent game.

Perhaps it's time you upgrade your monitor or get your vision checked. On my 30" display they certainly don't look like dots - they look like extremely detailed spaceships.

Before we start complaining about version 1.1 not being a real version 1.0+ as it's not even in Beta, let's remember this is "Arena Commander", not "Star Citizen", despite the title of this news update on Blues News. "Arena Commander" is in version 1.1. It so happens that "Arena Commander" is like an Alpha of sorts. It can be version 10.0 and it means nothing related to "Star Citizen's" version, as a game.
