Titanfall DLC Goes Free to Celebrate Anniversary

Origin Games now lists $0.00 as the price of the Season Pass for the Windows edition of Titanfall, celebrating the first anniversary of the release of the multiplayer mech shooter. This follows a similar 100% price cut on the console editions of the game's DLC reported this morning. The Season Pass includes three DLC packs for a total of nine additional maps. The Titanfall website has a message from Vince Zampella and Respawn Entertainment thanking fans for their support.

I bet this news bodes well with those 3 people that paid for the season pass.

Dammit, tempted to buy this(base game that is), but I have to assume this game is totally dead by now, multiplayer population wise.

Deluxe version of Titanfall is listed at $19.99 right now on Origin, hrm.

I bought it *derp* but no this is great news because unlike other games this one had such a low player population that you could never find any of the DLC maps in play.

Had it not been on Origin, I bet the game would have done a lot better. But then, the game is pretty boring and overrated as it is. The novelty of robots wears off quick, and then it's just an annoying grindfest. If it were free to play and on Steam, it might be worth sticking with it though. Oh well.

Agreed, and in addition, if they'd programmed bots to replace the human players, that would have increased sales too. It would have given the game an unlimited lifespan, as opposed to now where it's reliant on the servers Respawn provides. Lastly, if they'd allowed modding, that would have increased sales and set it apart from CoD/BF. I imagine an enterprising modder making a mod where you have to defend yourself against hundreds of zombies trying to jump on your mech's head and pop you out to eat you, L4D style.

Awesome! I think maps should have always been free in the first place, but free eventually is much better than free never.

Titanfall DLC Goes Free to Celebrate Anniversary in a desperate attempt to get people to play the game again.

- Fixed that for you, Blue.

It's not a grindfest really, only if you are wrapped up in ranking and prestige but it has no impact on the gameplay. free 2 play games are horrible money traps I'll always prefer to pay up front for a game. My biggest gripe is the bulk of the game install, sure hard drives are cheap now but it's rather large for not having a traditional single player campaign.

Yeah they've said something about learned their lesson about going console specific, so I think TF2 will be cross platform but not sure if EA will allow them to sell the game on Steam. I doubt it.
With that said if there are enough people enjoying this game I am sure TF2 will sell well on Origin.

This free DLC decision was a good one anyways. It's rare to see things like this these days from devs and publishers alike.
I personally have never seen CoD DLC go free.

It's a fun game that's obviously not for everyone, based on the wide range of opinions since it was released. I never had any trouble finding straight Attrition matches in the past few months, but it's shame the other modes are pretty empty.

I had to uninstall it to free up room last week. I'd reinstall it to try again, but the ~70 GB size with all the DLC is VERY hard to stomach when other FPS games can often be 1/5th the size. I think finding a way to ditch all the bloated audio files would work wonders for the game.

All they need to do to get people to play is get rid of map rotation. People STILL play counter-strike and de_dust2 is still packed. I don't know if CS would be as popular if everyone was forced on a map rotation.

The 50 GB install is because it includes every language's uncompressed audio, which takes up like 40 GB. It's annoying that i haven't seen an option to actually change the language in-game because i might care more about the plot of a mech game if it wasn in japanese ^_^

It looks like they literally just copied the ISO from the xbone version and slapped it on PC. Thank god no more microsoft-related exclusivity for the second in the series.
