Out of the Blue

Spring Training is getting underway for baseball, as pitchers and catchers have reported for every team. It's extremely cold across a lot of the country right now, so it seemed like an indication of spring might help.

Wow, never thought I'd describe a skunk as "cute" but that one is...

I'm actually fine with Pratt as Jones. It's a franchise that's going to outlive the folks that did the original, and changes are bound to happen. And frankly, they could do a fuckload worse than Pratt.

Yeah, Pratt is hardly the worst choice they could have made. If they actually use him, they'll probably lean even more towards slapstick/comedy in the next Indiana Jones, which is fine too.

Skunks = always cute... on camera. Any skunk you see in the wild is probably either rabid or ready to spray you into leper status. That skunk most likely had its glands removed, so it's crippled, but... skunks in captivity live a lot longer than in the wild... borderline acceptable to me for somebody to have one as a well treated pet.

That octopus video though... wow, what a badass predator!

I think Pratt might be good for Indiana...in a few years. He still seems kind of young for the role. And please, no reboot. Just make it a new story. What do they call in comics again when they pretend like something never happened and the new story is independent of any of the canon stuff?

Hah! Would have loved to have been at that wedding!

Lulz to that jerk Headcrab vid! That was great!

The skunk is cute but really? Of all the animals to domesticate as a pet? A skunk?

Boy octopuses sure do like crabs. Man it'd suck getting eaten by an octopus.

HPV vaccines and public health campaigns shouldn’t be limited to girls, says Apter, and Prof. Elmar Joura, lead author on the Gardasil-9 paper, agrees. “The female-only campaigns leave men who have sex with men unprotected,” says Joura. In societies where vaccination rates among girls are low, men who have sex with women are also at risk from HPV-related disease. Being vaccinated not only protects men individually, but also contributes to herd immunity, says Apter.

Unfortunately the religious abstinence only crowd like to use STIs as part of their fear based campaign. HPV is one of their darlings since condoms aren't as effective against it as they are against other STIs. The only reason the female vaccination campaign has met with any amount of success in the US is because of HPV's link with cervical cancer. This allows public health officials to bill it as an anti-vagina cancer vaccine to the fear guided public. After all what kind of monster would want young girls to get vagina cancer?

It really is ridiculous that the failure of this vaccine to become more widespread is because it eliminates one of the boogie-men from the abstinence only, anti-gay crowd. It'd be like if I opposed a medicine that prevented smokers from getting lung cancer, because I personally think smoking is gross and the best way to prevent people from smoking is by having horrible lung cancer as one of the consequences. /rant

I'd be opposed to a medicine that prevented smokers from getting lung cancer, because that'd force EVERYONE ELSE in their vicinity to also get that medicine....

Yawn.

He said something wishy-washy in 2008, before it was known to be fraud, and it wasn't discouraging vaccines.

Educate yourself. If possible.
