Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth to Add 100-200 Hours of Gameplay

A post to the Binding of Isaac website from a few days ago announced details on Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, an upcoming expansion for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth that should extend the game by a whopping 100-200 hours (thanks CVG). Here 's the deal:
The game expansion will be called Afterbirth.it will come out sometime this year (hopefully around the middle)

this expansion will feature:

  • 100+ new items
  • a full new game mode that will totally change how you play
  • 10 new challenges
  • a new playable character
  • a new alternate final chapter
  • new alt floors
  • new game endings
  • new final bosses
  • tons of new bosses and enemies
  • new item pickups, cards, pills, etc.
  • tons of new achievements and rewards for beating the game on hard
  • new co-op babies
  • new transformations
  • and more… :|

you could almost get lost in all that new content! it should easily extend the gameplay time by another 100-200 hours…

It wasn't until I unlocked the Azazel character, one that can fly around the room, that I started having any real fun with the game. Since then, the game has paid for itself many, many, many times over.

This is one of the main issues with getting into the game, it seems a little underwhelming at first. Including Azazel was a great way to bring along new players. Personally Azazel's lack of range drives me bonkers, once you unlock enough items, an average run should produce a more powerful build than Azazel, and that's where the magic happens, combination of power-up items that turn you into a killing machine, but don't get too cocky, one wrong move and it's all over, and sorry kids...there are 'no continues'.

Just could never get into this.

Ziggurat is my all-time, favourite roguelike ever.

Nothing to top it currently IMO.

Yeah I love Binding of Isaac. Perfect game to just start and quickly play without using your brain too much. The combat is pretty bad though... I think the game would be way better if you didn't have to fight with f-ing tears... Azazel FTW!!!

No, you were correct, BOI's Edmund Mcmillen was also working on Mewgenics but its sounds like they were having some trouble making it fun under all the weird systems they were adding in.

What ever happened to that Mewgenics game they were working on? I was super psyched about that, but I haven't seen any news on it for almost a year now I think.

*EDIT*
Oops, wrong company. Please ignore.

I actually think the core game is lacking in fun due to the complete randomness of items and the often restrictive room layout.

It wasn't until I unlocked the Azazel character, one that can fly around the room, that I started having any real fun with the game. Since then, the game has paid for itself many, many, many times over.

Otherwise, there's an funny, yet immature, crudeness to the game, it's randomly generated, there are a lot of items/endings/characters to unlock, each room is going to be a new challenge and experience, it's really easy to pick up and play or continue on an earlier game, and it's one of those games where, if you get hurt or die, you accept and realize it's nearly entirely your own fault.
I mean, any game where you go into your mother's uterus...

While it is nice from the devs... I never really got what made this game fun for people... feel like I am missing out on something, but all the time I try to play this it bores me.. mhh..

This game is a ludicrous value, worth 10x its $15.00 price tag already. I have 80 hours in this sucker and I haven’t even touched half of the playable characters. Adding more to it is just awesome.
