Ubisoft Financials

Ubisoft announces (Adobe Acrobat format) third quarter 2014-15 sales, saying they achieved record sales of €809.7 million. This exceeds their projections, and they've increased their forecast for the year accordingly. Here are the highlights:
The third-quarter sales figure was higher than the target of approximately €730 million
announced when Ubisoft released its first-half 2014-15 results. This performance reflects:

  • A sharp increase in market share to 12.8% for 2014 (from 9.6% in 2013).
  • A very good performance delivered by the two Assassin’s Creed® opuses, Far Cry® 4 and The Crew®, with respective sales of 10 million, 7 million and 2 million units (sellin):
    • Far Cry 4 was voted “Best Shooter” at "The Games Awards 2014".
    • Assassin’s Creed Unity won the prize for best “Character Animation in a Video Game” at the Annie Awards.
    • To date, The Crew has recorded the best sales for the racing games released in late 2014.
  • A solid showing from Just Dance® with 4 million units sold (sell-in).
  • The continued success of Watch Dogs®, with 10 million units sold (sell-in) since its release. Watch Dogs is the biggest launch ever of a new IP in the EMEA region and the second largest launch in the United States.
  • A 157.0% surge in digital segment revenues to €138.0 million in the third quarter. For the first nine months of 2014-15, revenues generated by the digital segment came to €274.1 million, up 120.3% year on year, and representing 21.2% of Ubisoft’s total sales compared with 15.3% in the same period of 2013-14.
  • A robust 25.9% increase in back-catalog sales to €67.1 million in the third quarter. For the first nine months of the fiscal year, back-catalog sales rose 6.1% to €181.9 million.

i just started playing it yesterday.. to see what the big deal was about

didnt have any issues, its well over 60fps on ultra settings 99% of the time

game itself is mostly more of the same, but its fucking huge too - theres some interesting "next level" shit being attempted... its not the best game of all time, but its not bad

gotta say, the mysteries are a cool touch.. also the open ended missions and heists

game was a victim of its own hype, BIG TIME

one particular design choice i think is retarded is the supergiant crowds of thousands... they are annoying to navigate thru and imho a complete waste of resources since there is literally no upshot to it - it looks janky

oh and if you never saw bugs, you just werent paying attention.. they are same cosmetic bullshit bugs that happens in all AC games tho, so...

nice to see someone actually PLAY the game to come to the same conclusion I reached, avoiding the whole rabid frothing dog scenario without ever touching the damn thing.

in short, nothing special gameplay wise, pretty graphics, bout 60 FPS on good hardware, same minor glitches you'd see in all games like this...

also known as... the sky falling

*and hey, thanks for linking that haunted Unity video whoever did that, that shit was funny ^_^

Dude. No.

I've had Latin at school for nine fucking years and I'm the not so proud owner of the 'Great Latinum' badge. The plural of "opus" is "opera". It's a neutral word. That's why it deviates from the grammatical norm where masculine words ending in "-us" usually end in "-i" in the plural form. Opus is different because it's neutral so it's "opera" instead of "opi" (lol@oppai) which does not exist.

Yeah, I know, you are correct of course. I was trying to make a joke.

He's clearly not an anime watcher. Only anime watcher's or people somewhat familiar with anime watchers and heard the term before would get the joke.

i never had any random floating characters, no broken quests, and with my 980 i played with 60 FPS almost consistently with near-ultra settings. the game looked gorgeous, and played almost identically to any other AssCred game, same shit, brand new beautiful engine.

people love getting their knickers in a twist it seems, but there's no consistency. unity worked flawless for me, i played half of it and then got bored, same as just about all other AssCred games, except this one looked phenomenal.

if it was a bethesda game, people would create cute memes embracing every quirky bug they found. with ubisoft for some reason people just rage like someone just raped their grandma. show me anything as bad as the flying horse glitch in unity, and i'll eat my hat

I have to admit I bought a lot of bad games between the ages of 6 and 16. Perhaps the greatest example is Road Runner's Death Valley Rally. They made shit back then, they make shit now. I'd actually say the average quality of games has gone up over time, in general...the problem is so have my expectations. Also, it's inevitable that they will cater to a larger audience, so you have to take that out of the equation. I'm sure there's a team out there that could make the perfect game for me but they'd lose a lot of money on it.

yep, the average person who buys games does not read reviews or does any research beyond seeing advertising or talking to the sales clerk.
Marketing and targeting the right market at the right time will always win.
Dont underestimate the naivety of the average consumer. Just last week I talked to a small crowd of teenagers who all bought a xbone because they believed call of dutys was exclusive to it. They had seen ads from the xbone announcements, no more research required.

Unfortunately thats true, but the drawback on this is. We don't know the shits broken until after its been released.

That's why you don't preorder. Then you wait, see it's broken, and don't buy it.

You have to understand kids dont' understand they are getting shit. Hence the problem. If we were kids all over again we'd see the ads and buy the games because we don't have 20+ years of gaming history like many of us oldsters. We were just as suckerish as kids. Do you remember the cartoons we used to watch as kids that make us kinda wince when we are now adults?

Same shit. The great thing about kids - is that they don't discriminate, the bad thing about kids... is the exact same thing.

I guess thats why they are making so many remastered versions of the old shit you talk about...gamewise
