That pretty much sums up what bugs me about the way they develop this game.
Time will tell and I for one really hope they can pull it off and make an amazing game because I absolutely love the genre, but I sure dislike their put the cart before the horse approach.

What about its Linux port?

Anyone following the game will know that this is a positive move. A lot of people play Arena Commander on a regular basis and therefore if a patch goes wrong it impacts a lot of people. This is a way to work out some of the unexpected issues beforehand.

This is the deceiving part. It's still Arena Commander, with future patches. You are in space, but within the bounding box of the two maps you can choose from.

I tried several times to play it. The controls are very laggy...I know Mr. Roberts said that was by design. When I roll my ship, it's like I have a 300ms lag. Also, the radar is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen. The center radar makes no sense. For some ships, it's not even active. They have the wing commander thing where they put an arrow at the edge of your screen pointing to your target. But...it's not 1995 anymore (most of us play higher than 640x480). The arrow is really tiny and transparent against all the stupid useless blinking UI that makes absolutely no sense...not to mention you are almost always blacking out whenever you turn (that is actually cool, but again, too much going on to follow a fucking tiny arrow).

I saw you can change the screen on the left side to four different modes. Cool...I cycled them, then my guns stopped working. This game takes about 3 minutes to load on my fairly pimp computer. So dying pretty much makes me press the exit button.

But, your avatar is synchronized with your stick movements! And the pretty! TrackIr is implemented now, so that's cool.

Well considering that the Persistent Universe is a specific thing in Star Citizen they could have picked better language for their pre-alpha build server.

At least one person in the thread was mislead.

Well since the Arena Commander is hardly a complete game and is updated on a regular basis and is actually an Alpha itself then...yes. There is no point to this other than as pure marketing BS. They appear to be giving 'something' new to the community while in fact they are giving them just another newer build of the Arena Commander.

Or this build could be to unstable, and rather than deal will 700.000 angry nerds on forums, they allow everyone to opt-in.

If it's bad - sorry, play on older version you already have installed in diffrent category, if it's good, everyony will download it next time.

I don't get the confusion either. They already had people beating the crap out of them for the problems the slightly rushed 1.0 release had (which was a mandatory upgrade for everyone), so the "PTU" or whatever approach now gives backers an optional way to test an unfinished / potentially very broken build without it being forced on all the other backers before it's ready. What's the problem?
