H1Z1 Refunds

John Smedley's twitter account has a bunch of posts about the launch of H1Z1 in early access (thanks IncGamers). A tweet replying to a complaint about "the airdrop P2W issue" offers a refund, and this is followed by word they are offering "no questions asked" refunds through Monday. His most recent tweet on the topic says they have asked Valve to honor refund requests this weekend, which follows this tweet pointing to a reddit post with more on their policy:
Hi folks,

If you feel like the airdrops are an issue for you, you may immediately request a refund to bwilcox@soe.sony.com - this offer applies till Monday and it applies only to people that have purchased the game as of 10:30am Pacific today 1/16/2015 -

Please note that this is going through us, not Steam. Which means it's a little more work so please be patient with the actual refund (it may take a day or two).

If you have a group of friends and each decides to get this airdrop, the group could help the guy who made the purchase and the entire crew could take turns and the own then rest of the server.

I think I'll be skipping this game.

+1, shut up and take my money.

Though for some odd reason, the mere mentioning of PvE in combination with DayZ seems to be like swearing in church.

Gamers don't have the courage of their convictions. It will be like the boycott COD group playing the new COD on day one. Few players will ask for refunds percentage wise. The devs know this and this is a pr win with low monetary cost.

Or another possibility. That each person speaks for themselves, so when 10 people come here and whine, ultimately it is 10 people not 10,000. Those getting their money back are getting what they want. Those not asking for money back are getting what they want. The people you speak to seem to be people that want their money back, but rather complain about it then go getting it, imo that will be few. It isn't near everyone that wants their money back and we have to respect that, that what we conclude isn't always what another will do.

SOE has 3 large scale games in beta/dev: H1, Landmark and Next, the two we can get our hands on... wow they have a lot of work in front of them and a LOT OF DIRECTION needed. I wonder if this is what past projects looked like internally and now we see it, or if they've slid a bit back, I know Landmark while in some ways pushing the envelope forward a game needs to be in there to.

You paid for early access to a beta product on the opening weekend and you're surprised that there are issues logging in and lag in the game.

Precious. Just precious.

And the offerings get worse and worse...

Because they can get away with it, and because apologists think it's the consumers fault for expecting something.

It is the consumers fault for expecting something. They paid for early access. That can mean pretty much whatever the developer wants. If you want a completed game, buy a completed game. It is precisely the consumers fault for buying an unfinished product. If you keep buying shit you're going to keep getting shit. Use your wallet intelligently.

Which is why I'm fearful of (useless) Sony store credit rather than a Steam refund!

Why is everyone so shocked when any f2p title becomes pay-to-win? I don't know a single title that is not. Of course there are varying degrees, but they all in essence sell required items to be competitive.

It always cracks me up when people have the gall to suggest most of these items are available in the game because they are only available if you have no life and play the game 24/7.

Do standard beta testing. Fucking SOE doesn't need to crowdfund the game, they have money to dev shit. Let testers play the game for free, help with the work of Q&A and bugfinding, and release a fully functional product.

Last time I fired up Rust my mouse stopped working after a few minutes of "playing". I terminated Rust using the keyboard alone. The mouse still wouldn't function until I rebooted. True story.

Reminds me of Planetside 2 (coincidental to this thread is a SOE game) which, to this day, will still randomly completely shut down my computer. I don't mean reboot, I mean full-out turned off with no fans moving. We're talking on a machine that can do night-loops of Memtest, Prime95, Unigine Valley/3DMark, etc. It only happens once every 100+ hours of play but it does happen, and did happen the first time logging in after their last update, in the VR room and not even a populated area within 60 seconds of loading it up. I still spent probably $150 on that game so clearly I can live with it.

Yeah, I took the refund. I hadn't even checked it out yet because of all the server issues, but my DayZ buddy played it last night and said it is a steaming pile of crap right now, on top of the air drop P2W nonsense. Not really worth paying to play it in its current state, just wait for when it's free if you want to try it at all.

It's probably a gamble they had to be make to keep this game from going under fast fast fast. The effect is gonna be the same on the bottom line, it's just another way of getting there. What a shame. The graphics are really rather HL1 looking too, but I can overlook that, but not for long.

Everything is extremes with you, its like dealing with a 5 year old. SOE makes pretty good money and generally puts out pretty decent games that people enjoy. That's how. This is a pretty minor fuck up in the grand scheme of things and something that is easily fixed in a day or two after a mea culpa.

7DTD has come a very long way since I jumped in to it (Update 6). It's regularly updated with open goals for each update and it's coming together is a great way...well, until you fall through the ground and to your death by stacking too much or digging too far. That's really the only game-breaking complaint I have while the other being no automation or mechanization for even trivial designs to propel it in to the stratosphere of amazing but I bet that's something in the design pipeline.

Is it worth the premium? It's debatable but it's been going on sale every now and then and worth it when it's marked down.
