Hotline Miami 2 Dev to Australians: "Just Pirate It"

Via reddit, there's word on Ars Technica confirming a practical, if profit-eating response from the developer of Hotline Miami 2 to the game being refused classification in Australia. "If it ends up being not released in Australia, just pirate it after release," designer Jonatan Söderström wrote in an email reply. "No need to send us any money, just enjoy the game!" Devolver Digital confirmed for Ars this is genuine, and Fictional Devolver CFO Fork Parker tweets a confirmation that this is legit as well. "He’s said similar things in the past," a Devolver Digital PR rep told Ars. "And yes, I can confirm he wants people to enjoy the game."

That made me laugh.

Still working out for Australian gov't tho. They're denying those devs the money, even if the game will get in the hands of some enterprising torrenters.

F$*k yeah... Our govt is really completely clueless when it comes to the borderless internet..

onya, Fictional Devolver for not giving a f$(k and rather than modifying a game for our nanny country, those small amounts of lost sales can be used as a promotion to motivate other people to buy it..

Well done!

I think I'm going to go out of my way and buy it because of the sentiment behind the comments to pirate it.

And so the idiot government / rating board's attempt to keep this material out of the hands of the people only winds up hurting developers who worked hard to make a living out of creating said material.

Well done. Bravo. Golfclap

The first game is a masterwork of portraying gut-wrenching violence in an 8-bit style. More than once, I was like, "how the hell did they make that exploding head look like that?" and, "yup, that guy is totally gouging that other dude's eyes out."

Couldn't the devs put the game on Humble Bundle or a similar service and regions don't matter? (no clue about the laws on your island)

They could The question is whether the game is region locked then (Doesn't seem to be case here) so yeah.. buy it.. outside of AUS region? On like.. dunno.. sites that sell steam keys or whatever. Or if all fails on GOG

Just stupid of the developer to include anything about rape in a game. Just shows that instead of just making a game that they are extremely insensitive to a very touchy subject. That would put the idiot label on them.
