Total War: WARHAMMER Accidentally Revealed?

The Total War Center Forums have a post from a user named StormOfRazors who received an early copy of a book called The Art of Total War, which shows off the visuals created over the years for the strategy franchise (thanks IncGamers). This seems to accidentally spill some beans about the future of the series, as it contains references to an unannounced game called Total War: WARHAMMER, a concept which dovetails nicely with the collaboration between Creative Assembly and Games Workshop announced a bit over a year ago. The post includes pictures to help confirm the news, so if this is a hoax, it is particularly elaborate. The reference is brief, but clear. Here it is: "We're also experimenting with this in the mobile space, with Total War: KINGDOM, and taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: WARHAMMER."

Well I for one liked Rome2. Warts and all. Its hard not to like a CA strategy game, especially one that looks that good. Yeah compared to the original Rome it was a much simplified and streamlined game, and yeah the AI sucked balls, but I still managed to get quite a bit of enjoyment out of the game I just didnt take it that seriously and got into the spirit of crushing some barbarian hordes. So what if it wasnt that 'deep'? It was fun!

Well, I mean, where do you suggest they go? It's not like there's a whole lot left to cover outside modern times, and there's only hundreds of games that cover that. I mean, maybe you could do pre-colonial and colonial America? Different tribes and European countries exploring and claiming territory covering US, Canada, Central America, and the Caribbean? I don't know how well that sells internationally..

Wow, all of the negative ninnies here... I for one think this would be fantastic!

Games-Workshop has a great IP, and fantastic writers at their disposal, but their games division is focused on milking out every penny they can from customers at all costs. Whoring out their IPs to low-skill developers because they are paranoid that any game that comes too close to the tabletop experience will detract from their miniature sales.
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishfull thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms.

I don't think they particularly shit on the game more on the developer that fucked them over more than ones.
The last Total War games since Shogun 2 weren't so stellar to say the least. Not sure about Attila yet but what I am hearing it won't be a very good one either, kind of following Rome2 foot steps. Not to mention the crappy "gore DLC" and stuff like that they cut out of the game and sell you later. You can already see that in the Attila trailers. No blood or gore that will be a DLC later.

I loved the Warhammer games and I think it would be great if these guys would make a Total War game based on it, but I will reserve judgement until it is out.
One thing for sure I will not preorder any more Total War games in the future.

Uhhh... I pretty clearly said that the last Sega published, Creative Assembly developed RTS game I bought was a buggy mess on release and they abandoned the game rather than fix the bugs. So yeah... It was a number of years ago but they did shit in my cereal.

Should I of waited for reviews and not bought the game on a console? Sure. Would of saved $60.

Should they of not been total douchebags and released a patch that the development team had already finished? Yeah. Would of stopped me from hating them and refusing to buy any title again from them at full price.

Are you expecting people to automatically forgive development companies and publishers whenever they release a new title for past douchebagery?

I'm still burned from Stormrise. The last Sega-CA RTS I played where after a buggy release Sega decided to abandon the game rather than pay to release a patch that was already done.

Never again. As much as I love Warhammer, another title I'll probably look at when it hits the bargain bin.

You must be new around here. There is never a post on blues without the negative ninnies coming out of the woodwork. The news here is great, the comments aren't so much.

However I completely agree with you, this game would be fantastic and NEEDS to be made. I wish them well and hope it turns out well.

I think it has the potential to be pretty cool as well. I won't deny that it could just as easily be trash, but I really dig the concept.

In typical CA style, it will require a centacore processor running at 50Thz with 512PB of RAM, a DirectX 55 capable video card with 4PB of VRAM (an Nvidia GeForce Titan XII should do the trick at the low, low price of $10,000USD) and require 65ZB of hard disk storage. Even then, it'll still run like syrup and the AI, despite the hundred million programmers they've assigned to writing just that subsystem, will still do retardedly dumb shit like send a stack of two mobs of pissants against the player's full stack of elite, veteran units one turn after an accepted proposal of a non-aggression agreement.

People were getting up-in-arms about how Attila is re-using older content and getting a fresh price tag thrown on it. The fact is is that they've covered nearly all notable eras and, at this point, there will simply be overlapping content. A departure from their historical entries and use the Warhammer universe would be a great way to give their historical series a break while still providing the Total War experience in another genre which is rich in story and detail.

I wish/hope that it would be the 40k series if true though.

I really liked some of the warhammer strategy games, such as Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omen. I don't know how I feel about Sega-CA doing this. On the one hand, I want my historic strategy games from CA, but they stopped doing history a while back and have been doing fantasy ever since.
