Minecraft Name Changes Next Month

Mojang announces that beginning on February 4th, Minecraft players will be able to change their game names from in the game. They explain this will not cost any money, that usernames still must be unique, but that they will also be using the occasion to free up unpaid user names, linking to this article on how to buy an old name. Users will be able to change their game names every 30 days if they so choose.

Minecraft is a pretty popular name. I see no reason to change it.

Oh you.

I can't read that now without thinking of that Seinfeld episode where he says it to his girlfriend because he doesn't know what her name is.

Two of the names we use for bowling scores... Mulva and Delores.

I got in super early - so got exactly what I wanted. Actually got home and installed it, added some mods, and was going to check it out. I had shelved the game since it first came out - not really my thing.

Thank god, my game name is terrible because I didn't know in advance login name = game name.

What is it? Something like, Captain Winky? Lord Tallwhacker? Sir Poopypants?

I doubt this will be a cash grab as they would have announced the pricing from the start.

I think it's a nice idea on their part; my 10 year old son named his character "BrickBoy####" (#### is a year), over 2 years later my nearly 13 year old son is nowhere near as happy with that name.

The land in Minecraft is flat, Minecraft simulates the Earth, ergo the Earth is flat.
