Gone Gold - Evolve

The Evolve website announces that Evolve has gone gold, Turtle Rock's asymmetric shooter is off for manufacturing and is on track for release on February 10th, offering the game's intro cinematic to celebrate the news. There does seem to be a bit of a cart and horse mix-up here, however, as they say that they are now selling merchandise for the still-unreleased game in the 2K store and they are still holding an Xbox One Open Beta next week, though they explain this is intended "to continue stress-testing the multiplayer servers," so this can be reconciled with the game's gold status. They also share the news that their awesome beards raised a total of $22,750 for Child’s Play and 227.5 inches of hair for Locks of Love. They conclude with word that they are already working on DLC.

I played the hell out of L4D, especially versus. I thought L4D2 improved the game in almost every way, but it wasn't enough to encourage me to put in the hours. I think it did get played out, and a L4D3 on PC probably wouldn't be a buy unless I cave to peer pressure.

That said, a release of L4D neeeeeeds to go to XB1 and PS4...I think it plays great as a console game but the 360 release ran at sub 20 FPS. 1080P and a solid FPS on the new consoles will sell a lot of copies.

You want to play a FPS on a console? Whats wrong with you man?
I have a nifty blue line!

Hell yeah! I'll be lost in open-sandbox games for a while.

Can't stand arena games anymore.

I honestly was looking at a Giants Citizen Kabuto type of game when this was first announced. It seemed to not really become that after all.

The maps in the alpha were all arena based and didn't seem to have enough space to evade the hunters long enough to evolve, mostly at later stages in the unlock advancement.

I find a lot of people saying this, but I primarily played the Monster during the Alpha and I was somewhere around a 75% win rate with the Goliath and 99% with the Kraken. Played roughly 50-60 games. The game was all about Stealth at the start. Keeping to caves, hiding your tracks, doubling back and climbing onto cliffs, leaping off to gain distance. Knowing if you are going to be caught, where is the best place to find cover till the bubble drops. With the Kraken though, you didn't even need to bother evolving. I killed multiple hunter parties at Stage 1 with Rank 3 Lightning Bolt. It was silly.

I doubt I'll be picking this up for $60 on release though. Got a Xbox One in a raffle at work and traded it for a PS4 so I have a bunch of console gaming to keep me occupied. If it had a co-op story mode like L4D, I probably would get it if some buddies picked it up as well. The progression mode they are advertising in the next Xbox One open beta sounds nice, but still not enough to justify the expenditure.

Pretty much the same as Titan Fall for me. Enjoyable, but not release day price enjoyable especially with all the planned DLC. Will pick up a GotY edition or something on Steam in a year.

Of course if you're playing against a bunch of random pubbers thrown together it's like hitting the easy button for the monster. One of the hunter characters you can unlock is a robot with a UAV for a head, at the start he zooms around and finds you and from that point on it's either race track mode or you're pretty much screwed - most likely especially if you're the Kraken because it's power only came into play after the first evolution cycle.

Maybe their "skill based" matchmaking was broken, too few people to match with? I kept getting matched against people that were high level hunters working together. Matches lasted less than 5 minutes and yeah, waiting around for next round was too long.

oh look, Loading-Screen Simulator 2015 has gone gold.

there's at least 3 timed loading screen between every match. during the alpha/beta, it took about 4:30 to start the next round, even if the last one was over in 60 seconds.

it's fun, but i can't handle that shit, my time is valuable. i don't play games which have such an utter disrespect for that fact.

More of the same is fine with me, both games are excellent and provided a ton of replay value. Maybe one day Valve will decide to make games again and we'll get another one.

Also, a L4D3 from today's Value would have a whole crafting world to it with insane customization. I could imagine a big community driven content side to it as well.

Turtle Rock doesn't own L4D anymore. This is a different crew anyways.

L4D3 is rumoured to be in development at Valve. I'll grab it at launch without batting an eye. I loved and played both L4D's (mostly in Versus) for hundreds of hours.

L4D with a random map generator rather than being on rails with the only dice being rolled being that observer throwing waves at you would be great. Destructible terrain, better weapon variety, greater weapon modifications, and functional tools to manipulate the environment to function as a stronghold for 'hold out' missions or just to stall the map.

That would be a great start, I guess.

$70 CDN? Not a fat fucking chance in hell is that happening.

$70 for an original IP from a new developer? Uhhm no.

Yes it's Turtle Rock, but it's not the old Turtle Rock and is different people. The ones that either didn't want to move to Seattle and work for Valve or that Valve didn't want to keep.

Of course this is just on top the bad word of mouth coming from the beta. Plus I've watched gameplay vids...it looks boring.

Depth on the other hand looks far more entertaining to me but I still haven't pulled the trigger at $16. But that's mostly because GTA V is around the corner and nothing else matters!!!

I've heard that TF has really evolved (pardon the pun) since its release a year ago. Supposedly much better than it was at launch.

I was an okay game, but not for $59.99

The maps in the alpha were all arena based and didn't seem to have enough space to evade the hunters long enough to evolve, mostly at later stages in the unlock advancement. It turned into a nascar race track with the hunters chasing a monster around and around. They mentioned mod support off hand at one time but I don't know if they've committed to releasing any mapping tools.

Timed exclusive DLC for Xbox One, one month I think. While they've said they had a ton of DLC planned for the game supposedly they won't be fractioning the community with paid maps.

I want them graphics to be in-game.

It uses the CryEngine to good effect but lacks destruction, doesn't look or play anything like that trailer of course.

One article I read a few weeks ago said that the guy playing the monster had no trouble beating the hunters nearly every single time. Seems like hunters need really good teamwork? Maybe they've tweaked it since then.
