Congrats to Verno for winning
this year's NFL pool, impressively finishing in the top 0.7%. Vern averaged
close to a win per week more than me, as I ended up in the middle of the pack,
tied for 14th. In the smaller, but trickier
spread pool, LastPlace defied his nickname to finish in first place, landing
in the top 0.5% of all ESPN pools, which is pretty impressive. I finished in the
middle of that one too, though clearly almost last place if you don't count
players who didn't make picks all season. Congrats to the winners and thanks to
all for participating, as it was a lot of fun. I'll look for a playoff pool...
if anyone has any suggestions for a site to curate our picks for the postseason
feel free to make them.
With New Year's Day falling on Thursday it's hard to say how much gaming news there will be this week, so we'll just have to play that by ear.

My secret strategy was to always pick the games on Wednesday. Seemed to work okay.

I picked using the same method also. I did care once I was in first place and a high ranking on ESPN. At one point I was ranked ~330.

Flying over the Ukraine rather than going around it saved them like 8% in fuel. Which thus makes it a very common thing to do for corporations. Save money AT ALL EXPENSE. 300 dead people? Eh. you saved 8% in fuel!!

Congrats Verno, well done. I spent most of the year proving how much of a fluke last year was (although I did win my fantasy league this year).
And to LastPlace, that was truly impressive. Just for fun I matched almost all of my picks against the spread with what the "sharps" (pro gamblers) were going with and I would have lost my ass.

On the one hand, accidents happen. On the other, you have to wonder if there isn't something in the corporate culture and/or governmental culture that is resulting in some poor decision making that's causing these accidents. Flight 370 was most likely caused by some kind of oxygen deprivation given that the plane continued on autopilot for several hours. The plane shot down over Ukraine: flying over a war zone? I forgot to put in my picks one week, and pretty much ignored it from that point on, or I'm sure I'd have put in a solid effort for last place.

The pools are always fun, its interesting how one good or bad week can really affect things. I feel bad for a few guys who were doing really well but forgot to pick one week. I didn't have enough time this year for 3 fantasy leagues, 1 pick em and 1 spread so next year I will just do the pools here. The paid fantasy leagues are kinda fun but I'm not much of a gambler so I always feel weird doing it, even if its just $20.
I learned the hard way this year to not second guess myself, most of my bad picks were ones where I took cues from commentators or friends and changed my pick. Go with your gut!

Tied for 7th so not bad. I started off poorly but picked up steam half way through. I got crushed on last week's picks however. Still it's pretty amazing when you see some of the overall people using that site having virtually perfect records.
Was a lot of fun guys! I'll just leave it for next year the site worked well for what we needed.

I missed parts of weeks, damn Thursday games, but truth be told that probably only would have picked me up another win or 2. I mostly did good, but I had a couple of terrible weeks where I attempted to pick a few upsets, and lots of upsets occurred, just not where I predicted.
Also congratulations to the Panthers for sneaking in with a losing record. I'd almost support not allowing teams with losing records in and treating that spot like another wild card.

I don't feel too bad ending up tied for 34th place considering I forgot to pick week 7. To those who picked all weeks without fail and finished behind me...tsk...tsk...tsk
