Spaceship Ahoy - Elite: Dangerous

The Elite: Dangerous forums announce the official release of Elite: Dangerous, as version 1.00 of Frontier Developments' space combat sequel is now available. The game's official website is non-responsive at the moment, but that forum post has some details:
A 30 year legacy, and more than 2 years of development, and we're thrilled to announce that Elite: Dangerous 1.00 is out now, available for download and play.

Change log for those updating from Gamma:

  • Prevent missions softlocks when switching servers from A->B->A without disconnecting from A
  • Check if we should use the neutron star's version of the bolometric luminosity first to prevent soft lock
  • Avoid crash in creating a location object when it hits a rare window
  • Sky box view distance altered to reduce memory usage in highly populated regions

I imagine that would work out quite nicely. I don't have the desk space, so I end up putting the keyboard on my lap with the joysticks on the table. This device could fit between them easily, and is probably easy to familiarize yourself with once we get our hands on an Oculus.

You could but other than actually typing messages to others you don't really use the keyboard. I personally don't use the keyboard at all.
On the other hand if you just need an excuse to get that toy, just get it, it will help in games!

That looks pretty cool! I would buy it except that I just broke my bank on a new computer...

I'm trying to think what I use my keyboard in game for. Most everything is mapped to my joystick buttons. I guess there's 'c' for chat and the keybindings for shadowplay.

Good choice
The 2011 socket stuff is pretty expensive. It takes ddr4 ram but no real benefit to gaming.

Thanks, I ended up going with an i-7 four core proc...saved me several hundred dollars. I haven't built a computer in a long time, I'm proud nothing blew up.

So...maybe not on topic, but I want to build a new computer.
I think I'm gonna get the nvidia gtx980 card, but I'm unsure as to the cpu. This one came up...um, any thoughts? I want to build a machine that will eat things for three years at least.

Wow. You're selling the Clipper to grind to a t7? That doesn't make sense to me. I had a t7 for about the time it took to grind a few million to get the Clipper. I can't think of a ship I hated more. Sounds like we are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

We are patient. We play this game for eff's sake. (Starting the slow grind to $800 million credits)

Yeah, most HOTAS setups have a 'clutch' key. Mine is the pinky button on the main flight stick. I don't use it as such, in fact, I had to do some weird setups to turn it into a button; it's my "weapon firegroup" select.
