Spaceship Ahoy - Elite: Dangerous

The Elite: Dangerous forums announce the official release of Elite: Dangerous, as version 1.00 of Frontier Developments' space combat sequel is now available. The game's official website is non-responsive at the moment, but that forum post has some details:

A 30 year legacy, and more than 2 years of development, and we're thrilled to announce that Elite: Dangerous 1.00 is out now, available for download and play.

Thanks to everyone who played this far - see you in space Commanders.

Ed (and the whole of the Elite: Dangerous development team)

Change log for those updating from Gamma:

  • Prevent missions softlocks when switching servers from A->B->A without disconnecting from A
  • Check if we should use the neutron star's version of the bolometric luminosity first to prevent soft lock
  • Avoid crash in creating a location object when it hits a rare window
  • Sky box view distance altered to reduce memory usage in highly populated regions

I played yesterday for a couple of hours. After I was almost killed in my Cobra MKIII again I bought a Viper MKIII and outfitted it with some beam lasers and multicannons.

I don't know what happened but I got very lucky. I was flying around Alioth 4 in a RES and managed to make ~1.5 million. It took me between 30 minutes and one hour. The game just kept spawning ships with bounties between 100k and 200k credits. Started off with an anaconda and kept spawning pythons and what not. Used my last bullets to kill another anaconda and then jumped back to Golden Gate.

Unfortunately I couldn't reproduce that same experience and only managed to make about 500 thousand in total in two subsequent runs which cost me 3 hours or so. Spent about 1 of those hours running from an Anaconda with 0% hull and a bounty of 213k. What a shame.

Anyway, I changed my plans. I will now bounty hunt until I can afford a Vulture (just have to find one of those in or around Alioth) and then I will bounty hunt some more to finally get my Asp Explorer. I was thinking about just buying an Asp Scout but people aren't very kind towards that ship.

I'll probably sell my Viper but keep my Cobra. Despite not having any luck with bounty hunting lately it's a trusty ship.

Steam keys have been available since the end of May. I remember getting mine, playing a few minutes and then forgetting about it. I couldn't remember what I was doing, or how to play, or anything really. Looked cool though. Check https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=148965 for the procedure, assuming it hasn't changed.
Thanks that did work.

I would prefer to have this game on Steam, so I can stream it on my home network.

I know what you meant, what my point was that sometimes you have to grind for that new ship because what you enjoy doing in the game may not be so profitable. It was a pretty long haul for me also until I finally got into an Asp. There was a bug that was preventing me to jump the ships maximum jump range so I was doing the trips with a lot more jumps than what I should have had.

It does get mind mumbling sometimes and so as long as you do not set up unrealistic goals for yourself but just play the game you should be fine. Take some breaks or do something else before you burn yourself out.

I did hear they've nerfed a lot of stuff since I last played. People were buying Anacondas within a month or so playing when the game came out.

Yeah but I don't want to explore for profit, I want to explore for the sake of exploring, the sake of fun. And that's why it's so annoying that it's actually not profitable. Just like mining.

It's like I want to do these things and the game is telling me "Well, you COULD explore or you COULD mine but it's gonna be a LONG time until you can get that shiny new ship."
And that is what's so frustrating.

I don't even have such high goals. I just want an outfitted ASP so I can travel the galaxy but before I get the 20 million credits required for that a long time will have passed, especially since I don't get to play that often (I'm on vacation right now, which is the only reason I made any progress at all).

Mining and exploration were never the most profitable activities. The rare trade runs were great and killing pirates was the second best for income. Doing missions was also great for money income.
It was still a bit of a grind fest but you have to switch it up a bit to make it interesting.

Because I want to play a game where I can fly around in a spaceship and have fun. And blowing up other space ships is fun, however, I want to try things like mining and exploring and trading.

The problem is that I have to constantly worry about how I can increase my standing with the factions and how I can maximise my profits because everything is so god damn expensive that I cannot just go out and mine or trade because I am just stuck with one ship and cannot but any more since the game is such a grind.

Which begs the question, why do you keep playing it if it's a drag? If you don't enjoy that type of gameplay than don't play it.
I've made quiet a bit of money before all the nerfs. Rare trades and pirate hunting was quiet profitable.
I haven't played in a while, but I am sure I'll come back to it some day.

Finally I reached the friendly reputation status with the alliance. What a drag. Now to think that getting allied will be at least as much... >_>

Also I used almost all of my 3 million to further upgrade my Cobra. I'll never get my ASP at that pace.

I think it was time that someone posted in here again.

I actually played some E:D on Friday but I think the grind is too much for me. I actually only want to be be friendly with the alliance and get an ASP but even that will cost me so much time I don't even want to play.

I'm sure this thread is dead, but I've picked this back up. The community goals are actually pretty fun! The game has a bit of a Guild Wars 2 feel to it now...

Anyway, if anyone is still playing and wants to play around in a wing, hit me up.
