Assassin’s Creed Unity Free DLC Offered; Season Passes Discontinued

An Update on Assassin’s Creed Unity from Yannis Mallat details a dramatic gesture from Ubisoft to compensate customers for launch problems with Assassin's Creed Unity along with word of the release of the promised third patch for the stealth/action game (thanks Guile). Word is they will now give the Dead Kings DLC to everyone who owns the game. They will also give season pass holders a free game, and while they say: "Season Pass holders will continue to have access to a variety of additional content, including Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China," they also say: "We are discontinuing sales of the Season Pass." All the details are in an Assassins Creed Unity Offer FAQ, and here's the overview:
We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus. You can find the release notes on that patch here: Patch 3 Notes

To show our appreciation for your continued support, we’re making the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone. For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free. More details on the offer for Season Pass holders can be found here: AC Unity FAQ

In addition to the latest patch and this offer, we are committed to delivering further fixes for other issues you’ve raised. In the meantime, please keep your feedback coming – it has been both humbling and incredibly helpful as we continue working hard to improve the overall quality of the game. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming updates, everyone will be able to truly enjoy their Assassin’s Creed Unity experience.

We will continue striving to make Assassin’s Creed one of the most ambitious and innovative franchises on the market, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

OK, is it just me or do the faces in Unity look WORSE than the faces in Black Flag? I got both for free with my XBone, and was comparing just to be sure. The faces seem blurry or something in Unity.

Dunno don't care. AC4 is probably the pinnacle of the series. I've been waiting for a good age of sail game for ages and this is as close as it's going to get I guess.

If I had just won the lottery I'd seriously consider licensing the engine and building a Napoleonic Wars age of sail game.

Lol if you think thats the best there is I guess you havent seen this:

Be warned, it will probably make you cum in your pants.

That looks great! But I tend not to get excited about games that haven't shipped yet, and think it's unfair to compare them to games that do exist. That thing is still in Star Citizen territory by the look of things and therefore is not much better than a dream.

Black Flag is better than this right now because it actually exists and runs quite well. It's also a fun game but would have been better as a "Pirates!" remake with more light sim action and a bigger world map.

Yeah the game is still deep in Alpha territory. However I dont think its fair to compare it to StarCitizen since the two games are so different in scope and ambition. Ive been waiting for a nice age of simulator sim for ages, and this is definitely on top of my most watched list.
I have a nifty blue line!

Really happy with this - can't see the point in being a dick about it this is a positive thing for a publisher to do and I want to see more of them do this sort of thing. FC4 is an absolute blast and i'm looking forward to playing unity at xmas by which time it'll hopefully be in better shape (and i'll have time to play it!).

Are they still going to patch AC: Unity though? Because it seems like it would a nice game if it wasn't for the bugs.

I suspect they're trying to avoid the EA route of getting a class action lawsuit (BF4 last fall). Not that the lawsuit hurt them, but it did get their shareholders attention.

You can bet they're not giving away AAA $60 titles out of the kindness of their hearts.

They're not based in America, so class action isn't really a big concern for them. Litigating a French company would be expensive. It really does look like a genuine gesture to make things right. Can't fault them for that, even if Assassins Creed Unity will still be a bag of crap, patched or not.

You need to brush up on jurisdiction.

And nin is wrong, anyway. The BF4 class action lawsuit wasn't from consumers, it was from shareholders. So it got consumers' attention.

Again, it was NOT consumers suing for a game being buggy. That lawsuit will not go anywhere which is why it does not happen. It was shareholders suing because they said the company kept talking about how great the game was, raising the stock, but the stock then fell because the game wasn't great.

And that lawsuit was tossed out as "puffery." It did them no harm.

Ubisoft released 2 broken games within a few days and now gives you the OTHER broken game for free ;p That ain't a gift, that's a poison pill. ^^

I debated the season pass, but then I realized that I had never touched most of the stuff that both AC4 and Watch_Dogs season passes released (heck, only place 1/3rd of the AC3 DLC storyline), so I'm not too broken up about it. I figure they'll release the DLC separately, and then just like I did with the season passes I'll wait for a sale on it if it looks interesting to me.

Pff, they're laughing on their way to the bank with Far Cry 4. Reused all the same shit from FC3. Even the goddamned detection thing. If all you have to do is let the design team go wild and send the programmers home and call this glorified expansion a AAA $60 title with the critics somehow backing you up, you'll laugh like a fucking maniac. "Here's FC4, now please don't be angry we somehow fucked up our other glorified expansion HAHAHAHA!"

*starts up an actual new game, called Dragon Age: Inquisition -- same price as said glorified expansions, btw.*
