Elite: Dangerous Goes "Gamma"

A post to the Elite: Dangerous forums announces that Elite: Dangerous has entered the final frontier, as Frontier Developments' space combat game has left beta testing, and has entered the gamma phase, if not the gamma quadrant (thanks Dave). This paves the way for the game's planned official release on December 16th, as gamma is an infrequently used term for a release candidate. Here's word on the changes that mark the occasion
The first gamma build will be released in a little over an hour. People will be kicked from the server shortly . Here is the change log for the build:

  • Playable area no longer restricted to beta bubble
  • Playable ship Python added
  • Playable ship Orca added
  • Kickstarter starting ships and locations added
  • Freagles added
  • Capital ship events added
  • Fix crash following docking and accessing starport services
  • Fix for multiple input devices not working - for example pedals and throttle from multiple input device controllers
  • Chances for USSs increased
  • Fix for cargo hatch not ejecting any cargo when malfunctioning
  • Workaround for AMD white lines issue
  • Check to make sure the target is this machine that this machine is ready to receive authority
  • New games account for fines, bounties, and permits
  • Added missing text strings for Federal and Imperial missions
  • NPC Comms in Another Castle Unidentified Signal Sources should now only display the new target destination rather than listing multiple destinations

Seriously? You can't just stay logged in without doing anything? They kick you for that? You sure it wasn't something else?

I didn't think anyone could muddle a space sim as bad as Egosoft, but I'm wondering if I should reconsider that now.

I've sat idle for hours, no kicks. "Kicking" only happens when you can't establish a server connection, and it drops you from your game. Had it once since beta 3, had it a few times in beta 2.

And other than losing solo offline, how has ED been muddled ??

Gamma? Now they are making up build names LOL? Cute game, but nothing to be taken seriously. I love space games, but like Starpoint Gemini better than this one. I am very disappointed in what they made, nothing like Elite.

Weird because I played the original Elite for hours back in the day and ED seems very much like it. Albeit with better combat, graphics and additional activities. How is it not like Elite?
I never got into the original Elite games, but after playing it in person in E3 2014's booth with Frontier Development team (even got to talk to Dave!), I was totally amazed. I would totally buy and play this if I had the free time. Dang it. I need to retire and stuff. LOL.

Although, no Linux port and offline play mode.

I don't remember the message verbatim, but it seemed more like an error than a timeout. I guess I need to be prepared for more errors kicking me. I don't care much about the online/offline drama, but I do hate it when stupid roadblocks prevent me from playing a game I spent $75 on.

It does not bother me that much at all. I just hope that you now can see the foolishness of getting envoled with Kickstarter.

So why did you buy into the alpha/beta?

I hope that they do refund your money so you can spend it on big boy pants (althought I'm sure you would rather spend it on Star Citizen Teflon pants for faster drag speed!)

"Lie = money back end of story" lol, no, you have been conned by a very good conman (you put in money before you knew what they accually had to sell) When you put money into a Kickstarter, you are not getting a product, you are funding a dream. In return you get a reward (copy of game/software in this case)

Any chance you could explain to me what it is that makes this game shitty?

There's already been an announcement that you can get your money back for the game regardless if you've played the alpha/beta. They might just refund you the price of the "game" minus the additional cost of joining the alpha/beta.

I would think there's going to be some push back against handing out refunds to people who have buyers remorse for spending so much on accessing the alpha version especially since it was $300.

People really paid $300 for a game that was in alpha? lmao
Did you see the $5,000+ ship packages for SC? People bought that before there was any alpha/beta available to even play.
Just sayin

Yes they did, which is why I wouldn't refund anything beyond the price of the retail game itself if it were up to me. You weren't signing on for an opportunity to play an "offline" alpha version of the game.

I guess if you were some uber fan of Elite the temptation was just too great.

I will proceed with my request, I logged in a total of 15 minutes I think since I bought the Alpha and not only am I not impressed, the way Braben lied about shit warrants this move.

You have to put in a request through their e-store, same place you bought the Alpha.

Are you gonna cry like a baby when they tell you that they are not goning to refund you due to you having played it in alpha?

Did you not understand when you payed them money, that the game may not turn out to be everything you hoped?

What is it you don't like about the gameplay?

Why don't you in the future, wait until a product is finished and released to buy it if you are only gonna play 15 mins of the alpha?

Please tell me, what it was that failed to impress you?

Had you ever played any of the earler Elite games?

What bothers you so much that I am requesting a refund? Will you cry like baby when I get my money back? I bought the game so I could play when offshore with zero internet connection because that's what was promised. I will not be able to play now during those times.

Are any of you not able to disengage from super cruise in this build? It's mapped to the "J" key just like every other build, but I cannot get it to work- note that I could not jump with "J" shortcut either, I had to use the HUD option. I even mapped jump to a different key just to see if it would take. I basically can't play the game now unless I'm doing something really stupid.
