What a weird game to port: going on seven years old.
PC gamers missed out on this genre entirely: Front Mission, Fire Emblem, Disgaea...
That genre being... turn-based strategy? Pretty sure PC has plenty of that.
None even remotely as grand and crazy as Valkyria Chronicles...
Agreed, calling this TBS is inaccurate. Sure, it's technically true, but it's a very generic description for something that differs from others in its genre.
The way I've seen it described is actually RPG, which I think is more accurate. It's turn-based, but it's also real-time. You move your characters as part of a turn, but they have to endure suppressing fire while moving (which stops when nobody is moving or taking an action, allowing you to cheat the system somewhat).
Anyway, the story is the best part, and the basic premise is an alternate WW2, complete with an oppressed ethnic group, elitist racial supremacist aggressors, etc. Also, I disagree about the main characters' English voice actors.
Spoiler: They are both arguably naive idealists who would rather not be fighting (one more than the other), and their voices convey that.
