Alien: Isolation Corporate Lockdown DLC This Month

SEGA announces they will release the Corporate Lockdown pack for Alien: Isolation on October 28th, marking the first of five planned DLC releases for the survival/horror game. The pack will include a new playable character, three new survival mode maps, new objectives, and a new game mode. Here's the news:
In ‘Corporate Lockdown’, Seegson Executive Ransome has learnt that he has been abandoned by his paymasters. Knowing that the Torrens is on the way, he decides to make his escape and hitch a ride on board, taking decoded Nostromo data with him. However, while escaping he wants to tie up a few loose ends… Across three new challenge maps, ‘Severance’, ‘Scorched Earth’ and ‘Loose Ends’, players are challenged to compete against others through Alien: Isolation’s online leaderboards, to escape the station in the fastest possible time or attain the top score through numerous side quests and hidden bonus objectives. New to ‘Corporate Lockdown’ is the addition of Gauntlet Mode where players are challenged to top the Gauntlet Mode leaderboards by completing all three challenge maps back-to-back without dying.

‘Corporate Lockdown’ will be available to download via online marketplaces for available platforms from October 28, priced at MSRP $7.99/€6.99/£5.59 and will be followed by four more packs: ‘Trauma’, ‘Safe Haven’, ‘Lost Contact’ and ‘The Trigger’. Each will feature a new playable character alongside a mix of new maps, objectives and game modes to challenge even the most proficient player. Players wishing to explore every inch of Sevastopol Station can take advantage of the Alien: Isolation Season Pass, offering access to all five Survivor Mode add-on packs at up to a 25% discount. All add-on packs are scheduled to be released by March 2015.

*sigh* Always this same bs complaint.

Developers have a budget for the main game.
Developers have a different budget for the DLCs.
If you don't want the DLCs, don't buy them. Don't come sobbing that you want more for less simply because there is or will be more. It's infantile.

Normally - I'd agree with this wholeheartedly, and while I do think the season pass/$40 worth of DLC (or whatever) is a rip off, the length of the main game is great - really worth the money, IMHO.

I also think that for a game, the alien's AI is well balanced enough. If it were any way more 'intelligent' it would rip you apart all the time - as it is it's just dumb enough for you to survive if you're careful. Surely, the point of the game.

Oh yes, my bro and I used to co-op that. Scariest game we ever played

Of course it spoilt us, playing official Alien games after that just didn't compare somehow.

The molotov and pipebomb will also scare it off for about 30 seconds. In general, the flamethrower seems like more of a "you fucked up, but you won't die for it... yet" thing than an actual weapon. When I would have to use it, I'd use the couple second break to find a good hiding spot, then I'd wait for it to come back, search for me in vain, and return to the vents. Occasionally I'd also use the flamethrower or a molotov to get that 30 second break, and then I'd make an all out dash to the next objective, although I'd only employ this strategy when near the end of a level.

The OR support is a bit sketchy, I understand that in the proper E3 demo you could freelook separate from your weapon or gadget in your hand, maybe that was something they had throughout the game and took it out - it sill exists when you go to save your game you can look around wile you're accessing the save computer, otherwise your gun/gadget is locked to your view.

It'll probably be fun to play around with but not a requirement or something you would want to play the whole game though with it on.

As for the Alien AI, I'm sure they could make it unforgiving but that would just be more frustrating than fun - it is a game after all. I found it to be serviceable overall, not horrible but maybe could have been quicker to react. If you try to attack it (place a trap) it'll become much more active and faster in moving around looking for you.

More than a couple of times I had thought, wow this AI is stupid only to have it quickly turn back into the room and kill me. If it does lock onto you, even from a distance, you're pretty much cooked.

You can't kill the alien so having weapons and crafted explosives in your inventory has no affect on the alien coming after you or not - only exception is the flame thrower but it'll only get it to back off ever so temporarily, and piss it off.

I'm not sure why but still my biggest reason for not getting this game (besides money) is that the Alien is walking. Now I know it's been awhile since I last saw Alien, but it just seems so unnatural especially of the game videos I have seen.

having played the game about 1/2 way, yes the alien is not good at all. it just walks around like a 2 year old inside a Halloween costume, making heaps of noise and bumping into objects(because it cant see out of the costume lol). You don't feel like you are being hunted by an alien, its more like trying to sneak around so you don't wake up the old man. The alien will never try to out smart you, or slowly crawl across the ceiling to sneak up on you because it's smarter than you and it knows that you are hold a weapon that can kill it.b It won't think ahead and set up an ambush. It's also inconsistent, sometimes it can hear you from far away and pin point you, and other times it can't detect you when you are close enough to lick it. Some hunter.

However it's not a bad game if you just treat it as a game, and space station is really nice to look at.

So having two hands free was a not so important evolutional step in the cutterverse?

Also the Alien in this game has the reverse animal legs, whereas in the 1st movie it was humanistic so that adds to the weird walk animation style

It's how it moved in the first Alien film. You generally only caught glimpses of it, particularly early on because they intentionally wanted to hide the fact it was humanoid until the third act. When you do finally get a couple of good looks at it, however, it's standing and its mode of locomotion is walking. The latter films generally have the aliens crawl and leap, but in the first one it walks. Scott has talked a lot over the years about how he envisioned the alien as being far more sophisticated than a mere animal, but wanted to only give hints of that sophistication while keeping the details fuzzy; part of hinting at that sophistication was giving it a humanoid shape and allowing it to walk.

Too bad they're just focusing on the space station with the DLC, I would have made one where you play newt trying to survive on the colony on LV-426 until the marines show up.

That would be awesome, but I bet they're limited by the licensing of this with Fox as to what they can reference. I bet there's a stipulation that they can only ever have one alien at a time so as not to make reference to Aliens.. (that was kind of a joke, but kind of not).

Omg... this so much ;/ Without motion tracker... without flares, without a gun and without crafting skills. But the AI would need fixing... the Aliens would need to sod off longer in that scenario and when they come they just patrol unless you are careless ;p (given there are a lot of Aliens on lv...)

yeah but it's a good kind of stress.

It's more about the atmosphere, the game oozes retro Alien sci-fi images and sounds.

I have to say the people marking it down for having manual saves are wrong and they're quite generous in allowing you to save so you don't have to replay huge chunks of the game if you screw up, it's needed to add to the tension. It's lite on the quicktime events and doesn't frustrate by respawning enemies in areas that have been cleared out (system shock 2) and weapons don't degrade or jam up.

Complaining about the randomness to the way the Alien moves around looking for you is silly, if it just followed the same path every time that would be just plain boring. I do wish there were more modes of travel for the alien like crawling on the ceiling, but in Alien you never really saw it walking around either.

Too bad they're just focusing on the space station with the DLC, I would have made one where you play newt trying to survive on the colony on LV-426 until the marines show up.
