I can assure you, I am serious - why would I be trolling? Honestly, I haven't had cable TV in about 8 years, and I don't have many friends, so I have never even heard of the show. Honest Injun!

I'm just floored by the amazing shows that have come out of HBO over the past decade or so. The Wire. True Detective. Boardwalk Empire. Entourage. Game of Thrones. Sopranos. Deadwood. Six Feet Under. The Leftovers. So much quality there. It's really hard to consistently maintain such high quality over an extended period of time. The only other studio that comes to mind is Pixar.

I'd also add Rome and Carnivale to that list!

Nope. I stayed with my folks - who are big Sopranos fans - in New Jersey (about 15 minutes from where most of the show was filmed) one year so I caught the odd episode but that's it.

Well, if you have prime, the entire series is out there, and highly recommended.

It's on the list. I still have to finish watching Jake and the Fatman.

Christ, you're almost as bad as a friend of mine whos trying to catch up on shit he taped on vhs a decade ago.

Man Prez, you have missed out on a lot of quality TV but I envy you in a way, you have a massive back catalog of the best stuff to keep you going for awhile. When Boardwalk Empire ends I'm kind of between things, a lot of "okay" stuff but nothing I love like those shows.

IT'S NOT TV

Of course it is. It's just cable TV instead of airwave network TV.

Did you seriously just ask "How's The Wire?"

Thought the same thing at first.

"Hey guys I just heard about this Breaking Bad? Any good?"

People had really hyped up The Wire for me so I figured it couldn't live up to expectations but it surpassed them. Just prepare to be confused a bit for the first few episodes with the street lingo but it grows on you very quickly.

The only show I have really wanted to watch is Game of Thrones. I've never seen one episode and couldn't name one actor or actress in it. I hope to stave off getting into it until the final season, but I doubt that will be possible seeing as how Martin isn't even finished with the book series yet.

Game of Thrones is pretty good, but it's nowhere near as good as the books are obviously. The Wire though is a purebred HBO show, and as good as it gets. Can't recommend it higher.

I think they plan to march along toward the end with or without GRRM, if they catch up to him.

HBO owns the rights to literally all of the movies that Netflix does not have. If they put these all up on the service it's a serious competitor to Netflix.

It will be interesting to see how they price this. I could see $15 per month. Not sure I'd do $20.

Speaking of HBO on Amazon, what on there is worth watching? I watched Band of Brothers on DVD a couple of years ago - I'm looking for something new. How is "The Wire"?

Trolling? I'll answer seriously. "The Wire" is arguably the greatest police-crime drama ever made. In fact, it's one of the greatest TV shows ever made. It's fantastic story telling with complex characters with their own motivations and flaws. Each season has a theme that the all the stories are kind of built around, but each character continues their own arc regardless. There are a ton of characters, but they always feel real, not just plot devices. Some amazing actors got their start here: Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba, Dominic West. Everything feels so real, you never feel like you're watching a TV show. Here's a non-spoilery clip from early in season one to give you an idea.
