Transverse Folds

Offering a "thank you," the Transverse website announces the cancellation of this space combat game proposed by Piranha Games (thanks The Grifter). The game drew skepticism from the start, with concerns about their funding plans and accusations of ship plagiarism, and their crowd-funding plan was reworked to add a minimum funding goal, which their announcement notes remained out of reach:
It’s a bitter sweet day. Thank you for taking a chance and showing us that you are interested in seeing our vision come to life. As you can see, the velocity of our crowdfunding campaign never gained the momentum needed to bring Transverse to life as a community funded concept. We are going to shut down our funding today, ahead of the 30 day deadline and begin the process of refunding as promised.

We plan to take Transverse behind the curtain for now. One day, I hope to see you on the Fringe!

What was the long story short on this.. Just checked out the trailer-- at least got me interested but clearly something(s) about the proposition concerned backers. What were those concerns?

I asked this a few weeks ago. Basically, it came down to the stretch goals being "add weapons to your ship" and "be able to shoot your weapons." One is useless without the other, and a space combat game is useless without both, so why were they stretch goals?

There were other reasons, but those seem to be the biggest.

Hahahaha, that's right forgot about that.

Funding Goal 1: We build a ship and you walk around in it!
Goal 2: We'll make it so you can fly your ship! In space!
Goal 3: We'll make it so you can engage in combat with your ship!

People asked, what happens if only Goal 1 is funded?

The long story short is that the people making this game are "PGI" which is a company that has a history of producing shovelware games or shovelware components for games: Bass Fishing, Duke Nukem Forever Multiplayer, Weapons of Mass Destruction (lol), some stupid/buggy-as-fuck Grand Theft Auto copy-cat, and MWO. Their upper management and producers are notorious for overhyping what they are capable of (and also really not good at game balance), and it shows in the disaster known as MWO, turning a once loved series that had tons of features and awesomness built into with a passion, into a shadow of its former self into yet another scammy F2P that's been gutting various old IP's lately.

Just read this.

Long story short. Do research into who is kickstarting games these days. If they wave some nostalgia in front of your face, and you have never heard of anyone on their team from the past games you loved, then go in cautiously.

They are a horrible studio to start with, only people who have not been following games would fund them.

While the game sounded interesting, it is obvious to anyone who knows them that they could not pull it off.

The issue in a nut shell is the company making the game had a similar donation set up to make Mech Warrior Online, which turned out to be substantially different than what it was originally described to be. This game appeared to be a rip off of star citizen thus people were concerned about what to expect.

Correction: The story referenced does not say that the game is canceled at this time. Only the crowd funding campaign has been canceled.
