Ryzom Forge Announced [Oct 01, 2014, 08:48 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The
Ryzom Community Forum announces Ryzom Forge, a "collaborative
project" to update Ryzom, jumping on the open-source release of the source code
for the MMORPG over four years ago. They
lay out a roadmap for creating an improved version of the game, and also explain
how those who are interested in this community project can participate. Here's
what they hope to accomplish:
- The first step (on going), the simplest, is to enrich available apartment items.
- The second step (also ongoing) is to take advantage of the mastery of adding objects to create new equipable items.
- The third stage, more elaborate, and also requiring a good deal of work on the tribes "level design" side, will be to create new weapon patterns available through tribe rites.
- The final stage, called New Zone project will be the creation of a new game area.

Horizons is still running, though it's now called Istaria and it's kinda a F2P game - though not really.
Still has 3 NA servers and I think 1 EU server going. You can play the Human race and have that one character. Everything else is sub locked, behind a $9.99 and $14.99 price.

Also surprised it's still running. I loved the gathering system. When they added the tutorial/starter island, I was hopeful they'd bring that stuff over to the mainland, but I never saw that. Grinding mobs to level didn't appeal to me. I still think it had the best gathering system we've seen in an MMO (although Firefall made a good try at it).

I remember trying it for a month or so way back when... didn't realize that they actually still had servers running.
Now makes me curious to see whether Horizons is still running in some fashion too.
