The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Appears

Steam News announces that The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is now available on Steam, and GOG.com announces they are now selling the new thriller from The Astronauts as well. Here's what they have to say about the game:
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a first-person story-driven mystery game that focuses entirely on exploration and discovery. It contains no combat or explosions of any kind. If our game leaves any scars, we hope you won’t be able to see them.

You play the game as Paul Prospero, an occult-minded detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Realizing the boy is in grave danger, Paul arrives at Ethan’s home of Red Creek Valley, where things turn out to be even worse than he imagined. Ethan has vanished in the wake of a brutal murder, which Paul quickly discerns might not be the only local murder worth looking into.

So it's Myst basically.
How is that a bad thing?

It's not really I must be the only one who liked all the Myst games.....

I don't mind slow atmosphere oozing explorations though, I just don't know what kind of gameplay length this has and what I should expect it to have. Dear Esther had less than 1 hour

Some other people have reported 4 hours. Also, from the patch notes, there are apparently supernatural baddies, though whether or not you actually fight them directly in any way is not clear.

I will play this when on sale, supposed to have the bext gfx/immersion evah! Sounds criminally short, but the hopes are more longer offerings from this tech.

Yep. You have to discover clues, search for items, move objects, put a crime scene in chronological order.
It's all very rudimentary, though. Don't expect supreme depth.

I haven't played much, just about 40 minutes.

It's a game you need to take your time with and absorb the details of the environment. If you don't have patience or don't enjoy a slow burn, then it's not for you.

Dear Esther was great. The environments and subtle story elements were very immersive. It's less of a game an more of an experience.

I played a bit of Vanishing last night and it's a more interactive than Dear Esther.
It's just as, if not more immersive as well.
Never has an organic environment looked as natural and realistic, either.

Graphics and sound are fantastic, but voice acting and NPCs aren't quite as high.

The gameplay mechanics are pretty interesting, but straight forward.

I'm liking it a lot so far.

I rather liked Dear Esther! Wouldn't like all games to be like that, but a few, why not?

Dear Esther was incredibly atmospheric and spooky. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah same. Also loved Gone Home. Will definitely check this out if reviews aren't too bad.
