I'd wait for the 20nm refresh but to each his own![]()

So hard to decide if I should upgrade from a 770 to a 970. The performance increase is okay, but the TDP sweetens the deal. 230W->145W

The 970 is incredible...I find it mind-blowing that many review sites are saying "yeah it's good" or "not bad!"...what are they smoking? 145W TDP with 4GB stock, which is ridiculous, hitting (or exceeding) Titan performance at stock, and it's putting out +14% performance on Fire Strike with a moderate overclock. It's closing in on my 2x760 score and my cards use over double the wattage. As far as I'm concerned it cleans the table and is certainly my #1 suggestion for builds...I wish I had the money, I'd get two of them.

Well I mean its up to you of course but you can get 60fps from a lesser card in most titles, especially if you back off Ultra settings/detail maxes. There are of course outlier titles so its hard to account for everything. In general 1080p isn't very demanding and I'm sure there will be a 960 at some point too for 1080p configs. This kind of card is better for a 1440p+ type setup IMO.

Guys, what about this?![]()
Gigabyte G1 SOC
looks nice, i wish you could achieve these temps in a "blower" fan config cause blowers are much better for SLI/xfire configs, i have a bunch of these 3x fan gigabyte 280x's and you can't xfire with them very well, the top one always gets way too hot, even when well-spaced and well ventilated.
i will be getting on of these, or waiting for possibly the evga aftermarket cooler. will not buy stock, as they've already shown that the 980 self-throttles to keep below 85 degrees. fuck that.

It's worth noting that the 970 has a lot of headroom for OCing too, a few sites already had it surpassing the 980 in some benches.
O.O

fuck, they're all sold out on newegg and amazon prime. i waited too long!
anyone out there have a handle on a GTX 980 in stock at the MSRP of $550?
*edit found a couple zotacs.... hmmmm... zotac?
Verno wrote on Sep 19, 2014, 13:59:I definitely buy with the future in mind, hence my card still being a 570
Some people prefer to spend a bundle up front and not have to worry about it for 4 years though so to each his own. I'm grabbing a 970 to OC and drive a 1440p config but if it was just my old 24" 1080p Dell then I would just wait a bit and see what else pops up.

You're suggesting the 970 is an overkill upgrade?
Also, my MSI 570 OC runs pretty quiet until intense load. Might have to grab from MSI again
