The Total War: ROME II – Emperor Edition is
now available, offering
the promised updated version of Creative Assembly's historical strategy game.
This is also available as a free update for those who already own the game,
adding new units, previously released free content, and Max OS X support. Here's

The Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition is upon us. The definitive version of ROME II is now available for PC and Mac via SteamPlay at your trusted retailer. If you’re an existing owner of ROME II and have automatic updates enabled, Steam will update the game to the Emperor Edition for free.
Alongside all previously released updates and free content it comes with significant improvements to the politics system and civil war mechanic, an overhaul of the building chains, extensive rebalancing of the campaign as well as land and naval battles, an improved UI, tweaked and improved graphics and more. I'm not paying $60 for a game when the only problem with RTW, which is otherwise as close to as perfect as a TW game has been to this point in my opinion, is that it needs a graphical update and all I've heard of RTW2 is how inferior it is.
I tried the Radious mod, it was ok, not that great IMO. Then i tried Divide Et Impera mod and was pleasantly surprised. Its the the mod your looking for.

Nah it doesn't suck. If you're looking for a complete overhaul mod, look at Radious' stuff.

If you have Medieval 2, try out Europa Barbarorum 2. Best mod for TW out there IMO. Of course for people who like the Hollywood version of Rome better this is not recommended, because its developed by historians and thus focuses on authenticity.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I'm pretty sure DarthMod isn't coming to Rome II. The guy has quit modding for TW.
That mod saved Empire for me, but unfortunately it doesn't look like that will be the case for Rome 2. I've looked through the mods for it hoping for something similar to save it, but I think there's just been too many big changes to the mechanics and systems for mods to be able to fix at this point.
The elegance, historiness, fun, drama and presentation of the original was so good.
This felt like a game put together by a lot of people who really cared about what they were doing and thought it all through but didn't think about how the game would play when they put it together. I will try again. Some of the character stuff comes across as CK2-lite, which is great! But implemented and communicated abysmally.
That first game was so good. If they remade that with the new engine it would have made me happy about the 60 euro I laid down on it. As it was I have been super gun-shy about pre-ordering since. And this is from the people who made those amazing Shogun 2 addons? The sins of Medieval 2 and Empire have returned 10 fold.
Might try again, but every time I boot it up to check what sounds like a good patch it ends up not being worth the loading times.

Ok might be worth checking this out if they ironed out the worst kinks in the game. Been a while since I played RomeII, and although I did have gripes with the game I still enjoyed it.

So in other words RTW2 v1.0 has finally arrived huh?
Well its just a battle simulator with rpg mechanics. RTW2 got rid of all the mechanical accuracy of RTW like influencing people in a family tree. Basically this video sums it up for ya which specifically mentions what makes RTW a solid title compared to RTW2.
I can say that most of the bugs are fixed, so it is playable, but the core game lacks a lot.
