Star Citizen DFM Patch Imminent

An Arena Commander V0.9 Status Update on the Roberts Space Industries website indicates they are very close to releasing the version 0.9 update for the Arena Commander module for Star Citizen first mentioned over three months ago when the debut version 0.8 was released. They explain the hoops they must now go through in order to push out a patch once their release candidate is improved, adding they are planning on improving this kludgy-sounding system to streamline this process going forward. There will apparently be a new hangar patch this weekend, as shown off in this user video. This recent post outlines all the changes planned for version 0.9, summarizing the news in this shortlist:

  • Murray Cup Racing Mode: As shown at Gamescom, players can now race their pledge ships in a specially designed upper-atmospheric scenario!
  • Vanduul Swarm Co-Op: Take on the alien hoards with a friend, or competitor!
  • Flyable M50 and 350R: The M50 and the 350R have been readied for flight to kick off the race mode. These ships will now be flyable in all Arena Commander game modes.
  • Private Matches: Tired of being matched with random players in AC? Private matches will let you play with friends!
  • Friend Codes: We’re launching a code system for both private and public matches so you can connect with your wingmen.
  • Leaderboards: Your performance in Arena Commander’s various modes will display on the RSI website and allow you to compare with others.
  • Updated Ship Performance: We’ve increased the speed and acceleration of every ship. With this we’ve also reworked the afterburner mechanic to increase acceleration instead of top speed.
  • HUD Update: We’ve overhauled the usability of the visor HUD interface so you can customize your ships systems much more easily in flight.
  • New Hangars: We’ve remastered all of Star Citizen’s Hangars with the new forward-looking room system and added the Asteroid Hangar.
  • New Pause Menu: Our refactored pause menu is a large step forward aesthetically, and will support new features like custom keybindings in the future. In the meantime we’ve included selectable profiles for the most common peripherals.
  • 6DOF: With the improvements to the IFCS and flight physics we are now ready to introduce 6DOF movement for an entirely new way to fly.

The game will be ripped to shreds by the modern gamers who expect action and entertainment every single second they're online.
This game is fucked. Roberts is smart to play with people's dreams though and make as much retirement money as he can while he still can because he's gonna need it once the game and scheme implodes on itself.

That is quite a crystal ball you have!

As a backer, I too have been ... amazed ... at the series of events via top-level design choices that has brought Star Citizen to this point.

Interestingly enough, the Persistent Universe is a stretch goal. If you believe the telling...at $5 million dollars pledged on Kickstarter, only then would the PU be incorporated into an otherwise single-player, DRM free Star Citizen... a Wing Commander styled space shooter.

That was two years ago and clearly the popular focus is now squarely on the Star Citizen MMO aspect. Squadron 42, which was to be Star Citizen, is now simply considered to be the introduction to the PU.

The PU is frought with competing priorities as the vocal ex-WoW cabal is looking for their space-raiding parties. The moneyed space-sim crowd is clamoring for fidelity and the practical 'min-maxers' are wringing their hands together gently swaying side-to-side arguing the merits of freight units and hot-tub placement.

Currently, SC is on a roll. Even with massive technical hurdles to overcome progress is being made with the modules themselves and the community is as involved as ever and factions are forming and creating their own place in the Social PU.

As fun as it might be to go over each and every one of the quizzical SC events in the past two years and footnote every happening in the great book of SC lore, that book is still actively being written and your prediction of an unsatisfying ending is premature.

Personally CJ_Parker, I completely understand your point of view and bias and your prediction may yet come true, but Star Citizen has momentum and that momentum is growing. Just look at the slit in the eyelid of the great EA dragon opening up ever so slightly.

Lastly, Squadron 42 might just be something very special. Interviews with Erin Roberts have been encouraging.
