Star Citizen DFM Patch Imminent

An Arena Commander V0.9 Status Update on the Roberts Space Industries website indicates they are very close to releasing the version 0.9 update for the Arena Commander module for Star Citizen first mentioned over three months ago when the debut version 0.8 was released. They explain the hoops they must now go through in order to push out a patch once their release candidate is improved, adding they are planning on improving this kludgy-sounding system to streamline this process going forward. There will apparently be a new hangar patch this weekend, as shown off in this user video. This recent post outlines all the changes planned for version 0.9, summarizing the news in this shortlist:

  • Murray Cup Racing Mode: As shown at Gamescom, players can now race their pledge ships in a specially designed upper-atmospheric scenario!
  • Vanduul Swarm Co-Op: Take on the alien hoards with a friend, or competitor!
  • Flyable M50 and 350R: The M50 and the 350R have been readied for flight to kick off the race mode. These ships will now be flyable in all Arena Commander game modes.
  • Private Matches: Tired of being matched with random players in AC? Private matches will let you play with friends!
  • Friend Codes: We’re launching a code system for both private and public matches so you can connect with your wingmen.
  • Leaderboards: Your performance in Arena Commander’s various modes will display on the RSI website and allow you to compare with others.
  • Updated Ship Performance: We’ve increased the speed and acceleration of every ship. With this we’ve also reworked the afterburner mechanic to increase acceleration instead of top speed.
  • HUD Update: We’ve overhauled the usability of the visor HUD interface so you can customize your ships systems much more easily in flight.
  • New Hangars: We’ve remastered all of Star Citizen’s Hangars with the new forward-looking room system and added the Asteroid Hangar.
  • New Pause Menu: Our refactored pause menu is a large step forward aesthetically, and will support new features like custom keybindings in the future. In the meantime we’ve included selectable profiles for the most common peripherals.
  • 6DOF: With the improvements to the IFCS and flight physics we are now ready to introduce 6DOF movement for an entirely new way to fly.

The way people here are going on about the cat in the seat (I love cats too), I would not be to surprized to see a new streach goal coming up soon

Shame it will take them 9 months to add just a model of a cat in your internet spaceships commader seat - then another 16 months to animate it so it does not look like you just sit on it.

This could lead to a new game type, Capture the Cat, and more streach goals of your cat interacting with your fish tank.

It's not like they are trying to make a space combat/trading game or anything - cos if that what you are after, you could just go play the new Elite game, no, this is a game about towels and the likes.

This would finally allow me to fulfill my dream of becoming a space veterinarian. Make it happen, Chris Roberts!

Am I missing something here? What is so exciting about a few new maps for the hanger? I watched the video, and it looks like it is just a room to store your ships. You log in, walk 10 feet to your ship, get in and leave.

Is it really a big deal if your hanger looks like an office building or the inside of a rock?

Hangar Trailer

The hangars are likley a sneak peak of what the final game is likely to resemble. They're building a lot of planetside content now but keeping it behind closed doors, they are going back and doing that to the Hangar's and I think the plan is to adding new sections to the hangar so you have a lot of room to explore and see cool space stuff.

It relates to the game at large - the hangars are going to be the player's seamless portal to all other aspects of the game (walking around on planets, launching into space, customizing your ship, managing business and deals, etc). Right now it's all just framework; they haven't finished that content yet.

Well Rockstar are fucked, how can they compete with this! Might aswell not bother to release GTA 5 for PC now.

If Microsoft is maybe paying $2 Billion for Minecraft, and being that they have work so well with Christ Roberts in the past, I'd be expecting a (pinkie in the mouth) $10 Billion dollar annocment any time soon. Star Citizen could be pre-installed on all Windows machines (just open the rubbish bin and it's already there!)
