My comment about Gamersgate does not equal Watergate meant that they are not in the same context.
Watergate involved actual illegal spying, shredding of evidence (records), and wiretapping. In other words, real world implications and consequences of actual high-level conspiracy.
Gamers"gate" is just a melodramatic term that obviously doesn't involve any of those things - it is what it is I guess, but I see why they chose the term to link the corruption of politics and other such scandals (i.e., colluding, useless democrats and republicans). They wanted something "edgy" or catchy because "-gate" is now attached to hundreds of scandals
that are mainly, you know, Humans being shitlords.
