Sims 4 Pirate Copies Pixelated

Player Attack has word on a creative approach to copy protection in The Sims 4, saying illegal copies of the game will feature blurry pixelated visuals, much like the censorship for the game's nude scenes and some of the Japanese films in your private collection. This has invoked the always entertaining spectacle of users flocking to the forums looking for technical support for their pirated copies of the game.

ouch... 3.7 out of 10 user score

Most of those 0 scores have 1 review. It's an EA hitjob. EA seems to get a lot of those.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the game sucks and is a shitty cashgrab, and I'm sure many or all of those 10s are as questionable. But, for right now, the game is attracting people that love giving games they have no intention of ever playing a 0 to "send a message." I'm not defending the game, just pointing out that a huge chunk of those user scores are from people that will never play the game.

Ironically the Titan Quest bug affected some legitimate copies of the game too, they had to patch it.

The only problem I see with a scheme like this is that incorrect word of mouth can spread about how buggy a game is. People may hear this and not realize that the "bug" being mentioned was intentional on the part of the developer. I remember reading threads when one of the Silent Hunter games (I think it was SH4) released with this type of copy protection. There was lots of discussion of its bugginess and some of the bugs being talked about were the intentional ones. Of course it didn't help that the game released in a horrid state DRM notwithstanding, but I digress...

EA was giving away Sims 2 for free a month ago, that's done with now.

here

however since they aren't supporting it anymore, i don't think the gaming gods would smite you for pirating it. 10 years later, it's akin to taping a late-night showing of "die hard" on local TV.

also, the pixelation is a cute anti-piracy thing. not really intended to be more than that. yeah it can be changed by editing one line, since when are gamers: "WE NEED STRONGER DRM!" lol?

Meh, I picked up Sims 3 during one of the last Steam sales and played it for a bit. I actually liked it.
What intrigues me about games like these is the simulation underneath. You shape the world in some way and try to control the lives of your sims but the interesting part is watching how everything plays out. I have the same fascination with Dwarf Fortress.
Unfortunately the algorithms that drive the sims in the Sims games aren't that sophisticated and it doesn't seem like it's the focus of the devs.

Now, imagine if, instead of posting on Bluesnews, you were watching a tiny little guy in your computer post on Bluesnews. For hours.

Oh shit, what if we ARE those little guys in the computer posting on Blues. My mind is blown!

I'm still not buying no Sims though, I won't even bother pirating it. IMO if it's worth pirating, then it's worth paying for. It's neither.

I'm kind of amused at idiot trying to get support for a stolen version though, in this case I think Maxis deserves it's lolz.

Well looks like Sims 4 does not have a scene release yet just for this reason. So users are just playing with experimental hacked copies.

Do they ever release demos for these games?
Non pixelated ones I mean

No, and it'd be really hard to do one anyway. How much of the game would you put in it? It's all very much interwoven, so you'd have to demo the entire game, essentially.

You can pick up Sims 2 for pretty cheap these days, and it's really not much different from Sims 3 or 4. (3 had the whole explore-the-neighborhood stuff, but in the end that fell pretty flat, at least for me.)

I loved that game. The way your little dude would tap on the screen if you'd ignored him for awhile was awesome.

I've quite enjoyed all 3 sims games, but I refuse to buy a game where they strip so much of the barebones functionality out of it just to sell it back later as DLC. Fuck EA's greedy bullshit.

I've looked at some of the "let's play" videos on the tube and about 2 minutes into the character creation mode I was so bored I was sitting there thinking why the fuck am I wasting my time watching this shit.
Never played any of the previous sims games, is this any good? Does it get any more interesting later on ?

It's a very specific kind of experience to watch your little people go about and run their daily lives, and react to certain scenarios you make up for them, etc. If you play it as a "game" where you're trying to do the most efficient things in order for you to "win", you're not really going to have much fun, no.

But it can be fun to just pile people with wildly diverging ideas and goals into a house and watching the sparks fly.

Also, for budding architects, the home building has always been awesome, and I have had quite a lot of good fun building really expansive mansions.

The release of the first game was an amazing event for me. When I was younger I played games like Little Computer People, so I followed The Sims development very closely for years. My entire neighborhood came over to check the game out at my place, we made a shared neighborhood where everybody lived, it was pretty awesome. That being said I really feel that after TS2 they started to get away from what made the game great and started pandering to geeks.

By that I mean, Will Wright's initial vision was for a house builder that turned into a life simulator, but it in no way was ever meant to be Facebookesque. I bring that up to Sims fans and they just point at Spore as one of his debacles. To be honest I think Spore was an awesome idea - how far away, really, was its idea from being a kickstarter on the level of SC? In fact it only supports my point that EA turned both games into what we have today.
