Microsoft announces Age of Empires: Castle Siege is in development at Smoking Gun Interactive for release next month on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Those platforms show this to be a touch-based game originally designed for mobiles, as shown in this trailer, so this may not be quite the return to the real-time strategy series old school PC gamers will appreciate. If there was any doubt, here's word on the game's microtransactions: "In-game purchases available to accelerate gameplay." As for the game, they say: "Build a castle city, defend against marauders and, when your army is ready, lay siege to opponents. All before breakfast"
