John Carmack's Son's Game

It sounds like Ryan Carmack is a silicon chip off the old block, as John Carmack tweets that we can now play Angry Face, a game designed by his nine year-old son. Word is:
My name is Ryan and I'm 9 years old. I enjoy video games a lot so I made one. I feel nervous about my game… it's rather simple. It's called Angry Face! This is my version of Pong. I wrote the game but my 4 year old brother helped me with sound and testing. He really likes the game. This is the very first game that I've created and I want to make more in the future. I hope I get a good response and that everyone likes it.

My grandma wanted a slower version of the game so I added a grandma mode and a pro mode for people who want it faster. Also, my game can only be played on a PC, Mac or laptop. It doesn't play on smart phones or tablets.

I think back then I was using Apple 2 BASIC (modified simple games from other codes), LOGO, playing Atari 2600 and Apple //c games (also made maps like in Lode Runner and Pinball Construction Set), etc.

Obligatory jokes about angry faces popping out of closets into pitch black areas where you have to keep dancing for your flashlight to work ... Seriously though, it sounds like this is one very lucky kid, getting to grow up with a father like Carmack.

Love the "grandma mode."

Is there another scoop? Carmack's mom plays video games too? Or is it his wife's mom?

When I was 10 I programmed a fairly large text adventure game ( I think it had about 40 "rooms"). I haven't programmed another game since.

My dad is a theoretical physicist. I used to love physics when I was a kid (still do) but when college time came around for some reason, I never even tried to sign up physics. Fear of failure, dissapointing my father? Probably. But more importantly I think I knew I didnt really have the mathematical or mental knack to get to grips with some of the more complicated physics. I think its definitely Nurture > Nature when it comes to having an affinity for a subject, but its one thing to have a love and passion for something, and another entirely to actually be great at it.

I'd say it has more to do with having parents that actually engage with their child - instead of buying a massive SUV to protect their precious little babies, and then letting their brains rot in front of the telly for 18 years.

Genes would come in only at the olympic level.

it's quite unequivocal, parents who buy sport utility vehicles have retarded kids. if only the dumb kid was huffing off the tailpipe of a prius, he might have had a chance to grow up with an iota of intelligence.

Well John better not have helped his son in ANY WAY to program this, else ZeniMax is probably going to sue...

I bet he also goes to a nice private school. I feel sorry for the kids that have to deal with some of these lazy, tenured blobs of stupidity that are now teaching in public schools.

No, I'm not talking about all public school teachers... I'm sure you've already come across the ones I'm referring to.
