Out of the Blue

I got some interesting feedback on my idea about getting a blue-tongued skink, including warnings that they are illegal to import and that they are poisonous, but neither of those is accurate. What may be more accurate was my conversation about them with a pet store owner who explained that skinks have a more typical lizard personality than I was seeking, describing them as "snakes with legs." His suggestion based on my comments about wanting a pet with personality that was more omnivorous than the gecko was a bearded dragon, a great choice based on the name alone. Reading more about this seems to support his opinion, and it seems obvious why these are such popular pets. This is nothing I'm jumping out to do anytime soon, but I'm definitely contemplating eventually going on an epic quest for a dragon.

You'd seriously consider driving from Cinci to Minneapolis for Bat's brisket?

Hey man, when you can't cook you'll drive quite a ways for good meal. Not to mention that I think Bats and I would go out drinking and cause some chaos lol.

Actually there are 4-5 Mpls peeps around here - so the invite stands. Any of you guys wanna head over - we will have a ton. Taking down a tree, smoking some foods, talking stupid, and enjoying some refreshing drinks.

Bison will be in 3 forms: dry rub, bacon wrapped, and naked.

You really don't have to feed your lizard's mice. I feed my geckos superworms and dubia roaches. The dubia roaches do not stick like crickets can and the roaches are high in protein.

I'm watching a M*A*S*H episode which has a clock on the lower right-hand corner. Is this suppose to mean something which I may have missed such as doing the whole show in one take or what? It seems like one of the more serious business episodes so maybe it's a countdown till someone dies?

I'm baffled and it's the first time I've ever seen it in spite of following the series closely on History since it came back in to syndication.

I love MASH...that episode is about a wounded solider and they only have so much time to do the operation or he loses his leg...im not 100% sure but i think that is the one your talking about

Is it like a "24" episode, where everything happens in a certain time?

(I realize Mash was on decades before, but that's the only thing that popped into my head...)

Keep in mind, though, that from everything I've read bearded dragons are definitely a lot more involved than skinks and whatnot, especially with diet. Basically, if you're at all squeamish about (or just don't want the messy, noisy hassle) feeding your pet live insects and mice, then I'm not sure a beardie is for you (stopped me from buying).

Every article I read about them says that live crickets and the occasional mouse are a MUST for growing bearded dragons. I wasn't at all interested in that myself.

Indeed the reason I liked the idea of the skink was because it sounds like if you wanted to, you could get away without feeding one any crickets at all. From what I understand about beardies is that when they are young their diet is mostly insects, as you say, but once they've grown, they mostly eat greens, supplemented by some crickets.

But they also aren't obsessed with eating living things, compared to the gecko, who basically lives on crickets. So they make pellets to feed them that comprise a complete diet. I haven't decided for sure that I'm going to get one, so I certainly am not set on how I would feed it, but knowing that this is one way to feed them is comforting.
