Z Remake Tomorrow [Updated]

Digital publishers Kiss Ltd and Kavcom announce plans to rerelease Z tomorrow for Windows PC as a modernized remake of the 1996 RTS game from Bitmap Brothers. Here's some artwork (update) and there are actual screenshots and a gameplay trailer from the game. Here's the deal:
The long-awaited 21st Century reissue of The Bitmap Brothers’ classic action real-time strategy title Z is finally unleashed Friday 4th July for the PC by digital publishers Kiss Ltd and Kavcom. Z The Game is a faithful and thoroughly modern reworking of the seminal Bitmap title, retaining its offbeat comedy and addictive real-time strategy game play, but updated for the modern gaming PC.

Fans of this classic strategy title are in for a real treat. Developed by original creators The Bitmap Brothers and Kavcom, everything from the original version of the game is in here from the terrific comedy cut scenes to the frantic game play making this is the definitive version of Z.

On its original release in 1996, Z: The Game was given 8/10 by EDGE Magazine, which commented that, “the computer rivals the best non-human opponents strategy games have ever seen...the attention to detail is remarkable,” while PC Zone awarded 92% and a Classic Award, saying the game was, “like Command & Conquer, only harder, more strategic and more intense.”

“It’s finally here, and I’m pleased to say that Z: The Game on PC is everything we wanted it to be," said Managing Director of Kavcom, Tony Kavanagh. “We’ve built it from scratch for today’s PC’s, but have keept all of The Bitmap Brothers’ unique style, humour and attitude. I’m sure Z fans old and new will just love it.”

The Bitmap Brothers title that I'd really like to see reissued/updated is Gods.

...and Magic Pockets.

There's a Java recreation of Gods, and Magic Pockets

Runs really well, but I'd pay money for something similar that hasn't butchered the original colour-cycled art style yet still somehow runs in HD.

i wish EA or someone would remake the original C&C with better graphics... i have very fond memories of C&C1 and has a special place in my heart.

have you forgotten that this was tried about a year ago and the project got cancelled by EA? The problem is, everyone seems to think making this type of game now requires in game transactions. This is what is killing games in general with many gamers.

We cant just go an buy a game anymore without some greedy assed developer wanting to milk the game for every Penney they can get.

Well it matches the latest 8-bit graphics trend that being so popular these days.

Which I hate. Is it really that hard to re-release stuff with new graphics?

Back in the day, this game did not grab me. I much preferred playing Warcraft 2 and the various C & C games. I just thought this one was silly, and even back then C n C had better graphics. Also, IIRC, this had no economy? It was purely tactical? You gained points by capturing and holding waypoints? Been a while, so I don't recall exactly, but there was no turtling option.

Yeah, those screenshots look very decent indeed. I was worried that xXBatmanXx might have been correct and it was just a shoddy port of the mobile version.

No links? No Screenshots? I would think that anyone wanting to get their game released and get out attention would require at least some screenshots of this new game.

There were a couple of pieces of art accompanying the announcement. I didn't find them helpful, but after this comment I added them in so you can judge for yourself.

Thanks Blues, its helpful.

And yea, I see what you mean.

Steam Linkage - has plenty of screens and a movie.

Looks virtually identical to the original, but higher-res.

But where did this even come from? First time I'm hearing of this remake and it's already out tomorrow!

The best type of announcement.

/looks like they put it on mobile some time ago - wonder if they are just putting that on PC?

I have fond memories of this game. Its over the top humour was pretty cool, as was the innovative gameplay mechanic (at the time) of your infantry being able to comandeer enemy vehicles.

Lets hope the modern version retains the style of the original.
I have a nifty blue line!
