Defiance Returns to TV Tonight

Trion Worlds sends a reminder that Defiance returns to SyFy tonight for the premiere of season two in the television tie-in with the Defiance MMOG. Here's word on how the game and show connect:
Trion Worlds and SyFy’s hit series Defiance, returns tonight, June 19 at 8/7c . As the first-ever interconnected TV series and video game, SyFy and Trion Worlds are raising the bar again this season with the most ambitious crossover content to date. New missions, enemies, and a new region -- Silicon Valley -- rolling out throughout season 2 will weave a story across the entire Defiance universe. In addition, fans will be able to tune into the live broadcast of the show for exclusive loot as special codes shown during each episode can be redeemed for in-game rewards at Defiance.com/EGO.

Tonight’s show picks up one year after the conclusion of Season One, and players of Defiance the game can get a firsthand look at what the shows characters have been up to, as the Tarr family has expanded its operations into the Bay Area in Datak's absence, and thief Josh Nolan returns to the Bay Area in search of Irisa.

Trion Worlds’ Defiance MMO is now free-to-play for all PC players, and will be free-to-play for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players this summer. New players and returning vets alike will be able to battle through the entire Bay Area storyline, as well as the all-new new Stahma’s Interests and Nolan Returns story missions, which help bridge the storyline of the two seasons.

The TV show didn't hold me to the end of S1. Someone mentioned continuum, this was good in S1, ok in S2 fading to poor then S3 has gotten better.

God awful acting, campy special effects, forced dialogue. It looks like a poorly thrown together, straight to dvd sci fi flick by a first year film student.

Anyhow, for my cheesy sci-fi aliens-esque shows.. Falling Skies does it for me.

This show is the worst sci fi i've seen in over a decade (or more) from a tv series. Continuum is pretty decent. As for Revolution, that one blond girl who's always complaining and crying all show long killed it for me. I'd do prison time to strangle that tv charactor...

I haven't seen this, but I have seen most of Continuum, which I highly recommend. It's not perfect, but it's well cast and acted, and has pretty good writing and does a good job with the time paradoxes. I lost interest a bit at the end of S2, but I think that has more to do with a BL2 addiction than anything else as much as the show getting a bit repetitive .

I wonder if Defiance is anything like Revolution? I just thought it was way to "videogamy" where they have these huge battles where the girl and the guy kill dozens of people with no repercussions or impact. Also, after watching how The Road did postapocalyptic, I just thought Revolution was just way too Hollywood.

I gave the show a chance, but it's just terrible. I couldn't get throught the 1st season. Plus they're ripping off the game Rage in some aspects. Weak.

the show has potential but its let down by the 'eureka' style town-drama ensemble bullshit

there are some farscape ppl on the production team.. it would be nice if they can pull it together, but its doubtful considering the name of the show refers to the town, like 'eureka', like another sci-fi 'northern exposure' - the premise is just fucking weak imo

if it was just the cop dude and the alien chick doing their thing, it could be pretty good

Yes, bad acting, bad dialog, as much as I like Sci-fi, just cannot get into this show at all.

"Show Based On MMO Game"

Opening scene: A man in light armor runs up and shoots someone point blank in the back 3 times. The victim is slightly wounded and runs away.

Shooter: This gun doesn't effin' kill anything!

I haven't played in a while, but it's not a bad game...just not a whole lot to it. When I quit playing, you could more or less run through the available content in about 5-10 hours depending on how fast you move and it's just sort of grinding around doing random events from there.

The show is ok, I guess. It has too many characters, with only a couple being interesting; it's good when they're involved, and bad when it switches away from them. With a little luck it's improved for the new season by cutting some of its problem areas and focusing on the good parts. It sucks a lot that something like Almost Human gets axed while this stays around, but it's still semi-watchable sci-fi. I think the first season is free on Amazon Prime right now, maybe Netflix but I haven't checked...it's ok if you go in expecting a Syfy show.

Anyone play/watch this?

I DVR'd the 'Season 1 Marathon' a few weeks ago and have been watching those episodes. The show has potential, but it is pretty weak in some areas: Acting, dialogue, continuity, etc. It hasn't really grabbed me like other series have, but the jury is still out; I told myself I'd at least finish season 1 and then decide from there.

If you haven't watched Continuum, I highly recommend that; it gets better with each season...intelligent writing. Season 1 & 2 is available on Netflix.
