Project CARS E3 Trailer

The WMD Portal now features the Project CARS E3 trailer, showing off some of the snazzy rides in the motorsports game. In the description they call this "the most authentic, beautiful, intense, and technically-advanced racing game on the planet," and offer gameplay footage to back up the claim.

This is purely subjective. AC and pCars are in the same ballpark when comparing GT or road cars or any of the more polished content. FG1000 in pCars is easily on the level of AC's formula Abarth for example and there's plenty more. To simply generalise and state AC is better is misleading really.

Hopefully the Ai gets ironed out a bit before release. I am hearing a lot of complaints about that, same goes for Asseto Corsa though.

What racing sim has decent AI?

I don't see the thrill in beating the AI in a race, it's like fragging gangs of AI in a single player FPS campaign. It can help a user understand and practice gameplay elements, but I'd prefer next-gen racing sims to embrace a more effective structure and system for managing multiplayer. Real drivers are far more crafty than any AI.

Does anyone know if pCars will put in a skill/safety rating like iRacing?

That's the best system I've seen seperate the newbs and cannonballs from running what would otherwise be competitive and respectful race.

Is Project Cars really going for that hyper realism? I know Assetto Corsa is.

Here's a youtube link showing off the handling on a '60s era F1 car in the wet. Handling looks pretty high fidelity to me.

That looks sooooo awesome. Thanks.

Some of it looks a lot better than other stuff. For example the slo-mo shots between 0:08 and 0:17 look much better than the shots of cars at speed between 1:05 to 1:15. Maybe it's just crappy youtube video compression?
It could be that and/or video was made from different builds of the game. Same thing I've noticed with the Elite Dangerous E3 trailer. I've spotted at least 3 different builds in that 1 minute trailer.
The youtube compression however really does fuck up a lot of high quality videos
With that said, I can't hardly wait for this one. It looks better and better every time they show it off.
Hopefully the Ai gets ironed out a bit before release. I am hearing a lot of complaints about that, same goes for Asseto Corsa though.

It's all in-game. The engine has quite powerful tools that allow for making really nice videos. Adjustable depth of field etc

Hell yeah, instead of just twiddling your thumbs with a game pad, a wheel/pedal setup involves all your extremities with a much deeper tactile feel for what's going on.

I game for that hit of adrenaline, and few games can offer the same feeling of a standing start and the sprint down to the first turn, or making a last lap move on another driver to beat him to the finish line.

Fun stuff

Why don't you own a wheel already? May I know your reason why? GT5, GT6, now THIS project cars, is the best gaming experience, immersion wise, with a Thrustmaster T500 (or Logitech or Fanatec) that happened to me in my 35 years of playing videogames since TableTop Pong and Loderunner.

Ok this look so good it's just effing ridiculous at this point. I hope it plays well with a gamepad because I'm sure as shit not buying a wheel and pedals. Effing amazing trailer! Effing effers!

Good luck playing Richard Burns Rally with a gamepad.

Get wheel and pedals, they don't cost that much and the experience is far superior to sitting on a couch with a gamepad and a fake joystick.

If you want a proper sim you need the tools for it. Otherwise it's best to stick to arcade racers.

Project CARs plays well with a gamepad. Fun can be had. Just don't expect to be driving on the limit in every vehicle with maxed sim settings.

The physics aren't as good as Assetto Corsa. They are better than the older Simbin titles though. Depends on which vehicle class you're driving. In some ways it's harder than Assetto Corsa but not for the right reasons.

I play rfactor2, Assetto Corsa and pCars. I love them all tbh.

The GT cars in pCars are now of a high standard and easily comparable with AC. It surpasses it in some aspects with regard to FFB and handling. The lotus 49 is much better in pCars than AC. It feels flat out wierd in AC. Having said that, I think rfactor 2 has the best historic (pre 70s) open wheelers atm.

Quite a lot of the Track cars feel brilliant in pCars as well. Its definately aimed at pure simulation. The tyre model alone is extremely complex.

I only race with a G25 Wheel and pedals (Human Racing GT Chassis) though so have no idea on the gamepad front.

Plenty left to do on pCars, but it is shaping up very nicely thus far.

Wow, this looks gorgeous. I don't usually like driving games, let alone driving sims, but I kinda want to play this just from these clips.

Time to install Burnout Paradise (10 cent Origin purchase) to hold me over.

PCARS is definitely intended to be a full-on simracer but with nods toward the arcade segment such as big fantasy highway type tracks thrown in. IMO as yet the physics and handling still aren't competitive with the other big PC sims. The tire model and force feedback implementation haven't really come together properly yet, but it's improving bit by bit and they have another 6 months to get it right. Time will tell but it could be quite good.

On very powerful hardware it does actually look that good, and I'd be willing to believe that's all real-time footage. It looks nearly that good on my mid-range system, but with the odd jaggies and artifact you'd expect without the latest and greatest hardware. Either way, the graphics engine is superb and well optimized.

From my understanding, it should be all engine graphics but the handling is very much still improving after each update. I imagine it will be close to rFactor, iRacing, Assetto Corsa by launch.

Assetto Corsa offers one of the best suspension/tire models out there, but the scope of that title is much smaller but will be more mod friendly than CARS (such as F1ASR)
