Star Citizen Arena Commander Delayed

The Roberts Space Industries website announces a delay to the release of the Arena Commander module, which was supposed to go out to Star Citizen backers today. There was a simpler time 12 days ago when this seemed feasible, but it turned out to be too ambitious, as they note there are at least two show-stopping "blocker" bugs among the remaining issues with the module. They offer a complete list of the bugs they are chasing, and word is there will be daily progress reports until Arena Commander is released:
It would be foolish to release an unstable build, even if pre-alpha for the sake of meeting an internal deadline. This is the power of the crowdfunding that made Star Citizen possible: a publisher would make us ship tomorrow regardless of the current build quality… but as you are all focused on quality rather than a financial return for shareholders we are able to take a few more days to deliver something that is stable.

I know that’s not the news you wanted to hear tonight. No-one would like to see the community get their hands on Arena Commander more than I would.

This is what can happen with an open development process, especially when we are sharing code and content long before one normally would in traditional development. But I don’t think you would want it any other way! The Star Citizen team feeds off of your incredible enthusiasm and your energy for the project… and we want more than anything to see what happens when you get into space.

In order to keep our backers as informed as possible, I’m asking the production team to provide DAILY updates for the community until Arena Commander V0.8 ships. This will be the raw stuff: lists of bugs and other information to tell you the current health of the build. You will see the same information I do, and you will be able to follow as we resolve each “blocker” preventing the build’s release.

So where is the daily update on the progress of the Arena Commander that Chris promised?

It's a stretch goal. He's got to get to $45M for that.

Well, you know, it was a 'Chris promise' so what you have to do is think of how cool it would be if it happened and then send in money to help make it happen .... at some time.

Yeah, I'm getting very close to pulling the trigger. It's not like I don't have 3 million other things to play. but I can't tell you the last time I played a space sim.

edit: Anyone that plays today/tonight, I'd love to hear impressions - thanks!
I am planning to play tonight, but I am sure if you do some search on youtube you will find a bunch of beta vids popping up today.

Yeah, in the 2010s it's like I bought a sloppy console port I gotta go buy a new video card/motherboard/CPU more RAM, and, of course, a console controller for my pc.

Just using any excuse to show off my favorite Sim:

F86 Sabre wicked!

The Sabre is coming to DCS in July, the short clip was taken from the new rendering engine EDGE which is not yet in the game, but is in internal beta testing. There are no post-processing visual effects in the video!! In case anyone is wondering, the Sabre's adversary the Mig-15 is also in production.
I have a nifty blue line!

Of course!
Premium Beta comes with all expansions.
The way I've looked at it if I wait until the game comes out I'd pay $50 for the game plus $50 for the expansions.
If I want in the premium beta and play today it costs me $50 more, and I support an amazing game to be made today.
I threw $50(extra) at games I should have never done.
Frontier well deserve my money, but I understand others who decide to wait or don't have the cash to spend on the game. It is all good.
The game client was just updated this morning so beta is imminent
Today is going to suck at work!

101st! Ha!

Regarding DCS: World. It truly is the best, complete combat sim experience today. Ive been a regular on-off player ever since the Blackshark days. Best part is that they keep adding to the existing modules all the time. For example recently the F15C got a new flight model, which at this point is probably the best, or rather the most complete in the game.

Here is another simple example of how awesome the sim is. Yesterday I was messing around in the quickfly mission with the Mustang p51 and configuring my face tracking software, basically its a one on one vs an enemy FW190D AI plane. So we are getting it on going in to rolling scissors and somehow he gets stuck on my six and I cant shake him off. So I dive to the deck and do a really hard pullup and left turn at the last minute. Suddenly I cant see him, he is nowhere, I do a few turns eyballing high and low and cant find him anywhere. Figuring its a glitch or bug, I land on a nearby field and save the .trk file (replay) to see what happened. Anyway to cut it short, apparently as I was doing my last manouver the FW190 lost control and stalled, then promptly crashed as he was too low to recover. Awesome sauce!

Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you. For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

We are fools for Christ Robert's sake, but ye are wise in Christ Roberts; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place;

And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

Also, I think it was required for at least one kid to piss in the ballpit daily.

*EDIT* More on topic: The spectacle around this game continues to amuse and depress me. Regardless of how the actual game turns out, psychologists could study the circus around the game for decades and keep finding new flaws in the human psyche to point out.

Saw the minimum was like a 2XX spec card, so I'm going to give what I have now a go before deciding on an upgrade.
