Firefox is bloated and slow, Chrome may be mining the shit out of its users but at least its a fast browser.

The best browser to me is one I don't even have to think about when I'm using it. Considering I had to check to see that I was using Firefox, I guess it passes the test.

Was a lifelong Firefox user. Just switched to Chrome a month ago because of the CEO fiasco. When Google does something REALLY stupid, I'll switch back.

Is bookmark all a plugin to make bookmarks of all tabs? If so, that functionality is already baked into firefox for a while.. just right-click any tab and choose "bookmark all tabs"

A browser isn't a browser without Tree Style Tabs. More than anything else, that add-on keeps me on Firefox.

Doesn't Chrome Adblock still load the ads, but then just hide them - so exploitable code can still run on your machine?
While FF Adblock actually blocks the ad from loading?

That was the case at one point - and I've always felt comfortable using FF so never really switched to Chrome (outside of on my phone since FF on mobile last I tried it was a bit kludgy).

You know what boggles me, why do these browsers don't ship "within a sandbox" to begin with? They can easily bundle with a preconfigured sandboxie.... That way, first setup and bookmark/lastpass etc get saved when you say so, And any change to the browser after that gets blocked... would solve so many issues. (as long as it is user friendly) Sandboxie most certainly is not user friendly ;p

Without Tree Style Tabs, All-in-One Sidebar, and NoScript a browser isn't viable for me.
Stuck with Firefox until another browser can handle my browsing style.

Chrome also reloads all open tabs on launch. not good when you have 100+ tabs open.

It gives you a ridiculous level of control over tabs, how they open up, how they close, opens new tabs for different domain links within a page and so on. There are several different Chrome extensions that mimic it but none have the full range of features. Firefox hasn't been memory heavy for a long time either unless you load it up with unnecessary stuff.

I'm using Sandboxie, it seems robust enough to stop malware is there a better alternative? Granted I'm aware that if a user is dumb enough to download an .exe and run it outside the sandbox then all bets are off.

No better alternative, no (for browsing, anyway). But as with all things, a sandbox does not protect you if you don't completely wipe it after you quit it (ie, auto reset, and it only loads a known-safe-config) but you have to be careful if you allow things to run within a sandbox that you are not sure about. Sandboxes prevent permanent changes, but they do not prevent someone copying your steam guard protection file and sending it, for example. Unless you severly restrict what applications can do in the sandbox (which you should!).

If you set a sandbox up correctly, then it is still the best security you can have. And more importantly, it solves at least the problem of trojan or virus hijacking your pc.

It's not a be all and end all of security though. Much better than any AV.

Sandbox + good firewall and you are set.. imo

Still use Firefox though they're making it harder for me. They're following the trend of gearing the UI for the first-time or extremely casual user at the expense of everybody else. They want to make it easier for Grandma to search for her recipes or use the Facebook. But that never made sense to me. After everyone is a first time user for a little while they become an experienced user for life. So you're catering to the first 5% of a user's experience instead of the 95% of the rest of their experience. And who doesn't use their browser daily in this day and age.

Still, their saving grace is you can add a lot of this stuff back in with add-ons. Some of them don't work as well as when the functionality was built in though.

I've used Chrome for years and don't get the things he's saying in the article. I've never had the crashes he's describing, ever, and if he's worried about Chrome being used to track what you're doing and then later boasts about how you can use two different search engines in Firefox instead (one most likely Google anyway) then I'm not sure he even understands what he's talking about. They'll track that usage too.

Firefox was a resource hog when I used it, crashes frequently, and was generally slower than Chrome. It'd be great if they fixed that, but even if they did I don't see a reason to switch back since I don't pile on add-ons anyway.

Have no respect or use for Mozilla when they allow such virulent bigotry in their ranks. To hell with them and Firefox.

As for 64 bit Firefox, doesn't Waterfox do the trick?
