I've tried every CM racing game since Dirt, and I think Codemasters biggest fumble has been the alienation of it's original fans over the last 7 years. Where in GT and Forza add and improve with each title to meet the demands of its maturing user base, CM seems content to keep focused on selling to the same demographic, 12-18 year olds who aren't avid fans of any motorsport.
It's probably just their business model. They know they can't actually make fundamentally sound AI or a car physics engine to compete with the best sim racers on any platform, so they're selling to kids who have a passing interest in automotive sports, and through CM market research, this target market cares about how many followers or fans they have and always want to put their raddest race on Youtube. And because they are crushing can after can of Mountain Dew, you need to keep telling them to put it on Youtube.
And yet rally and F1 are the two most awesome motorsports to simulate in video games, and those games attract those new to the sport and those how have been following it for decades, and CM doesn't know how to please everybody.
Remember kids, you're sick bro, that was awesome. Put it on Youtube!
I think you go a bit overboard with that stuff.
I don't think Grid or Dirt were ever aimed at the hardcore racing sim guys the begin with.
I agree the latest iteration of their games had too much of the Dudebro-ing going on but if you go back and play Grid 1 or Dirt 1 those games were hardly sims.
Forza is great I've put endless hours into it but every single Forza game had the exact same problem. They become super boring.
Grid never got boring for me, every race was exciting (except those damn LeMans races they were fucking frustrating)
Even Forza tried to go down the Dudebro path with Horizon and those drift events they've added into 4.
Anyways hope CM will return to their routes with this game and finally move on from that premature Ken Block style hip hop bullshit the whole Dirt series is poisoned with.
Leave that type of shit for Need For Speed.
