GRID Autosport Announced

The Codies Blog has first details on GRID Autosport, a new installment in Codemasters' racing series coming to Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on June 27th. The post is quite lengthy, as it discusses how the game should better align with the expectations of fans who were disappointed in GRID 2, though they do boil it down to 10 words in their TL:DR summary: "Yes, we have an in-car view, two in fact." There are posts on NeoGAF (thanks DOSGaming) where a purported Codemasters developer says PC is the lead platform here, and the PC edition will not be a port. This trailer celebrates the return to the roots of the series, and here's a bit on their plans:
While we were patching GRID 2 and releasing new content, we were busy gathering feedback. We devoured the comment threads under articles about GRID 2 on gaming websites, took stock of our reviews, and of course, digested all the comments on our social channels and forums where we received direct feedback. It’s this feedback that helped create GRID Autosport.

If GRID 2 raced off into a more narrative-led world of racing with more accessible controls, it’s clear that for many of you, that wasn’t what you wanted or expected from GRID 2. So with GRID Autosport we had the opportunity to make a much more focussed motorsport game, a desire that many of you have expressed directly to us, and a game that in spirit goes back to some of our earlier titles in terms of content and handling.

I could never get into Gran Turismo for some reason.
I am curious to see how the new one will look on the PS4 however.

After playing Assetto Corsa everything else feels like child's play. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with a fun gamepad driving game, it's just that the nuances and challenge of a sim like Assetto Corsa is so addictive that when I try other car games now I feel like they're on rails. That includes Forza on Xbone and Project Cars (which is my second most played car game after Assetto).

Sims can be fun too.

This, Codemasters have kind of lost it since Toca.

Meh, I'll wait for peps reviews on this one before buying when on 50% sale, I've been burned on all recent CM games. Flashy, shallow, repetitive bullsh*t with faked Ai and physics. All I ask is Game like Gran Turismo to swoop down and take all the racing/sim market for itself. As it stands now is full of rubbish arcade games and unfinished, half arsed projects like Assetto Corsa, P:C.A.R.S, R.R.E and others with bare bones structure on them albeit some good physics and good ideas just not enough money to deliver enough of content, Ai and polish. I't pains me to buy each and every Playstation just for Gran Turismo alone and miss out on Pc's superioriority in presentation and controls.

I enjoyed GRID 2 but the arcadey "X-TREME" stuff kinda ruined the experience and multiplayer was a shitfest. I really hope they are offering a rebate to people who own the last game. Supposedly they are looking into it and we'll see if that happens I guess.

I have not tried it with rift yet, however the option to enable rift has been in the graphics menu for ages. Also, the AC official twitter account recently had pics of the game being demo'd on Rift DK2.

I'm tempted to get Assetto Corsa. Do you know how good the Rift support is? I find ETS2 is a bit tricky with the Rift, I can't make out the GPS well enough at the low resolution.

GRID was about my level of driving game and I'd like to see this with in-cabin view, Oculus Rift support and no fad X-Games type bullshit. I've long wanted a more realistic driving game in an open world but I couldn't see how anybody could make a game out of it. Turns out, you make it about delivering cargo around Europe by truck.

I don't want a sim, I played Colin McRae's DiRT and GRID with a gamepad, but they at least took themselves seriously as racing games without unnecessary fluff. I don't need to feel like I'm at X-Games or whatever bullshit atmosphere they wanted to peddle with every DiRT after that, and what kind of self-respecting racer doesn't have a cockpit view? I agree that GRID with all assists off and locked to first-person was the best any CM title has ever been.

Fun fact of the day: Codemasters is majority owned by Reliance Entertainment, a part of a massive Indian conglomerate, which just so happened to co-produced Need For Speed, the movie.

I've tried every CM racing game since Dirt, and I think Codemasters biggest fumble has been the alienation of it's original fans over the last 7 years. Where in GT and Forza add and improve with each title to meet the demands of its maturing user base, CM seems content to keep focused on selling to the same demographic, 12-18 year olds who aren't avid fans of any motorsport.

It's probably just their business model. They know they can't actually make fundamentally sound AI or a car physics engine to compete with the best sim racers on any platform, so they're selling to kids who have a passing interest in automotive sports, and through CM market research, this target market cares about how many followers or fans they have and always want to put their raddest race on Youtube. And because they are crushing can after can of Mountain Dew, you need to keep telling them to put it on Youtube.

And yet rally and F1 are the two most awesome motorsports to simulate in video games, and those games attract those new to the sport and those how have been following it for decades, and CM doesn't know how to please everybody.

Remember kids, you're sick bro, that was awesome. Put it on Youtube!
I think you go a bit overboard with that stuff.
I don't think Grid or Dirt were ever aimed at the hardcore racing sim guys the begin with.
I agree the latest iteration of their games had too much of the Dudebro-ing going on but if you go back and play Grid 1 or Dirt 1 those games were hardly sims.

Forza is great I've put endless hours into it but every single Forza game had the exact same problem. They become super boring.
Grid never got boring for me, every race was exciting (except those damn LeMans races they were fucking frustrating)
Even Forza tried to go down the Dudebro path with Horizon and those drift events they've added into 4.

Anyways hope CM will return to their routes with this game and finally move on from that premature Ken Block style hip hop bullshit the whole Dirt series is poisoned with.
Leave that type of shit for Need For Speed.

Bring back the in car view. How the hell can you have a racing game without it?. I thought Grid was too hard but I would have bought Grid 2 if it had the in car view.

Hmmmmm Check out around the 2:59 mark...

When he says "they want to create an authentic motorsport experience"?

And at 0:52 he says:

"We've got endurance racing, where races happen at night, you've got to factor in tire wear, and actually maintain concentration for 8 to 9 minutes"

Oh yeah, that truly captures the "heart and passion" of endurance racing...
