Out of the Blue

Sorry to hear David Letterman is retiring... He's always been a favorite of mine, as I still get a kick out of his curmudgeonly wackiness, and I will miss him. I'll never understand how Jay beat him over all those years, but in my opinion, he was always the winner of the late night wars, even if the ratings didn't show it. And now, here are some links, as always, compiled in our home office in Wahoo, Nebraska:

Jay was always straight up gag humor accessible to your average Joe Lunchbucket, while Dave's takes on the human condition required a certain minimal intelligence quotient to appreciate.

Dave was/is a class act, well played.

I preferred Letterman because, as has been remarked upon elsewhere, he punched up whereas Leno punched down.

Other way around. Most people saw Letterman as a snide jerk who loved to cheap shot people.

Letterman actually has opinions and doesn't mind upsetting people. Jay Leno is a television self insert for conservative baby boomers and old people. Might as well be a fucking mannequin up there.

Jay is the asshole that went along with NBC, and helped boot Conan. And then tried to play it off like he was an innocent bystander, who just happened to get his job back.

Fuck him.

We have been getting Letterman here on a regular basis for the last few years, it really did not do well. Tired jokes at the front his bald lap dog hanging on every inflection. Endless privileged personalities trotted out to flog their latest book, movie etc, is this the 21st century?

No wonder the generation coming through would rather trawl YouTube for content.

Never cared for Letterman myself. Jay wasn't much better, but I could actually watch him.

But what a legacy. It's hard to imagine no Letterman show.

Leno had better ratings than Letterman, and Justin Beiber sells more albums than Tool.

Just because you win the pop contest, doesn't mean you're the best.

Top Ten lists were funny through the years. His adoration of the Clintons was a bit boorish though.

Big Bang was pretty good last night. I don't like what they are trying to do to Sheldon though. Pushing him to be intimate with Amy. That's whats funny, Amy being a horndog and him not caring.

In other news Johnny Depp has been seen wearing his fiancee's ring. Yes a girly diamond engagement ring. Why he would do that is a mystery as confounding as the start of the Big Bang.

Yeah agreed, Letterman was always way more interesting. Leno was just more safe and palatable, he played well to retirees especially. Leno never really pissed anyone off the way, well except for Conan fans
