No Watch Dogs Demo

Answering a question on Twitter, Jonathan Morin tweets that there will be no demo version of Watch Dogs, Ubisoft's upcoming open-world hacking game. He says: "They are no demo planned before release," adding an explanation: "Doing Demos take time, the focus is on the game. You will see more footage before release." Thanks GameSpot.

This is MY game.

You can have it.

I'll probably pick it up if I can get it cheap from GMG or something, and it does look interesting, but I'm not as gung-ho excited about it anymore.

how many open world games can you name with demos?
Not too many on the PC but there are demos for open world games.
"Recently" on the PC there was Sleeping Dogs.
Normally with these games that have no demos we get a free weekend to try it out like what Saints Row did a few times, but this game being a Ubi title free weekend is not going to happen.

Either way it would have been nice to have a little sample of the game on our own hardware to see how everything runs.
I am sure after release there will be plenty of youtube vids to show the game off.
I am not into pirating anymore.

You're right, especially with modern 15-20 min demos, the only real point is to test performance and stability.

And if you're sure you want a game barring some unexpected compatibility or performance issue, just buy it from a retailer with a good return policy.

10 min later : Wow. Out of curiosity I checked Steam's return policy and it's basically no returns once the product is released.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8360-wejc-2625#refund

However Origin has a much more reasonable 24 hour window.

WTF Valve?

Other than seeing how the shit runs on your computer, I don't really see the point in a demo in the age of Lets Plays and thousands of YouTubers to choose from, some of which probably shares your likes and dislikes in games almost exactly.

Wait for them to check the FULL game out, and make a decision accordingly. It's better than trusting a demo with cherry picked gameplay sequences and better yet, doesn't distract the dev team during crunch time for an already delayed game.

BIG NEWS SCOOP WOW!

Seriously, so few games get demos these days. Demos are often a poor representation of a game anyway. I would rather the devs work on real content (main game or dlc I dont care which) than something that serves very little purpose in todays world. This really doesn't seem like the kind of game that would benefit from a demo anyway. The appeal is the whole world and all the interactions you can have there. Being able to try a couple powers in a locked away corner of the city? Ridiculous.

Knowing how a game plays on your rig used to be a thing with me, but given that most games are made for cross platform, I know that my PC can handle them, since even the new gen consoles have about half the power of my rig.

they can barely polish a game today, demo lol.. thats like sending a developer to walk himself into an execution and pull the switch himself... not too mention.. spend money to prove the game sucks? hahahaha

Meh, less of an issue than it used to be. Today we have the holy trinity: let's play vids, gaming podcast dicussions, and Blues News.

Not always enough. I wouldn't have bought Castlevania LOS if it wasn't for the demo, instead I would have listened to a bunch of jackasses on the net and missed out on a really nice looking game.

Same goes for DmC: Devil May Cry actually. That was my GOTY 2013 until AC4 came along, still has a better story but AC4 is pure fun.

My interest in Dog Watcher has dropped so much... *yawn* oh, can't you smell it? it's not going to be a good one...

No problem focusing on day 1 DLC though,

Exactly, if they weren't so foucsed on DLC they could you know make a demo. I'll just wait for the sales if it turns out to be any good.

I'm fairly excited about it too. Not on a level with The Division but still excited none the less.

I'll most likely buy it Day 1. Yeah, I know there are Internet rumblings about the graphics being scaled back and the demos/videos not being a true representation of what the game will look like. Just like with Dark Souls 2 yet I'm still going to have a Hell of a lot of fun playing it. Getting it on the PS4 so I'm hoping this will be the one that looks next gen for me. I didn't get Infamous Second Son so I'm not sure if that is the first true next gen game graphics wise at least.

Just a word of warning if it is broke dick like B4 when it releases I reserve the right to grab a torch and pitchfork with the rest of the Internet.
