$100 Wolfenstein: The New Order CE Has Statue, No Game

The Bethesda Store is now accepting preorders of a Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Edition, a $100 limited edition collection for the upcoming Wolfenstein game (thanks nin via Polygon). This includes an 8" articulated Panzerhund statue and a steelcase for the game, but not the game itself, as they explain here: "This collector's edition does not include a copy of the game. Keep your pre-order at your favorite retailer and we'll send you these goodies separately—this way we can ship these boxes worldwide and you're not stuck waiting for your game to come along with an oversized, expensively shipped box."

I typically buy the CE of every time I possibly can. I really like the stuff - especially in the Blizzard ones. I have a tone of them all over my house.

Honestly these days the physical game disc is worthless to a collector anyway once the code is busted. Modern CEs have a very low resale value unless they are brand new.

That reminds me of that wonderful UO expansion that was put in stores and got sold for real money, and the only thing in the box was a note saying "Yeah, it's not actually ready yet. But as soon as it will be, you'll get it!"

And yep, it was EA publishing that. Gosh, it is SO HARD to see why people hate EA so much?

I'll admit to having purchased two or three CEs over the years -- but this one holds no interest with me.

If "toy" means "marketed to children," I think I understand why some states require dildos to be sold as "back massagers."

Nothing odd about this. You do get the game with this CE, just not a physical copy. What else is new.

more like marketing it for other game company employees that like to have more "cube toys" shwag on their cubical desks in the office. it's fun to have at home too.

Sadly I think this is a good idea. Now collectors editions extra price all depends on what's extra, but I know i'd have gotten a few online games digitally if I knew that I would be able to pick up the collectors edition items separately. I'm looking at you blizzard art books/usb sticks.

I just noticed that it does include the Steelbook case, but nothing is inside. That's just like the Dark Souls II CE I've got on pre-order (there's a Steam key in that one). I don't care whether there's a disc in there or not, it just looks cool and that's why I get the CE...

I think for 100 bucks they could still throw in *some* edition of the game. You can still pre-order another copy to get sooner, or for an edition that sells out just like they're wanting you to do here.

At most a physical CD and a single game key (that you can give away) get wasted. But not having the actual game with the material here seems less like a collector's edition and some sort of side item to me.

I see no issue with this. Similar packages that include games go for $150-200, so it's not like they're charging you that full price and omitting the game, it's been adjusted accordingly. It's just another option for those who like CEs, one which I frankly hope catches on.

Without commenting on the value or lack thereof in the CE package here, it's always made more sense to me to have Collector's Edition be an "addon" so that you can snag the CE stuff separately without buying a redundant copy of the game.

For example if you wanted to buy a game on Steam but wanted physical CE goodies.

This.

so now if you changed your mind on the platform you can go with the PS4 version, or PC, or even a used copy for Xbox One... etc. $100 is way too much though. I'd pay up to $50-$60 tops, or less if the game will be crappy.
