Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Leaves Beta

Blizzard announces the launch of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft after an extended beta period for the free-to-play card game. Here's the deal:
Blizzard Entertainment today announced that Hearthstone™: Heroes of Warcraft™, its free-to-play digital card game, is fun! Like, really fun. Which is good, because it’s now officially out of beta and fully released upon the world! Speaking of the world. . . .

“We saw some reports early on that Hearthstone might destroy the planet*,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re pleased to see that the game has been released and the planet is still here . . . though we apologize for all the lost productivity.”

Hearthstone is now available on Mac and PC, with iPad support coming soon. Android device, iPhone, and Windows tablet versions are in development and will be available in the future.

Casual is always a toss up but I agree they could add some casual matchmaking. Some people say that casual mode can actually be more difficult than ranked, which I have seen sometimes.

As far as I know, Arena does sort people based on wins. I think it's after 5 or 7 wins you get put into a bracket with only people who've won that many times. Arena is pretty fun, but I wish there were some restrictions and more balance put into the card draw. It would be nice if they had the 2 card limit like in all other game modes, and if there was some balance in the types of cards you are offered. There can be some pretty powerful decks because some people just get offered better cards.

Someone who just hit level 10 that has only a handful of cards from the expert deck should not be getting put up against someone in that has a full deck of rare or better cards. How is that an enjoyable experience for either person? Especially when it could so very easily be handled by some sort of matchmaking system. Then you can then play your powerful deck of cards against players with a similar deck in either queue.

What they changed in the ranked queue (allowing people to retain half their rank in new seasons) is a welcome change to that game mode... and will help the matchmaking there at the beginning of new seasons... but "casual" seems to just throw you up against anyone who happened to be sitting there waiting. The level of the class you are playing and your overall common deck power should simply be more of a factor in who you end up playing against.

I think Arena mode should also always match you up with a player that has played the same numbers of games as you... when you get up to 5-6 wins you have considerable "knowledge of your deck" advantage over players playing their first game or two with their new arena deck.

Just spitballin here... shrug. Obviously I'm having lots of fun with Hearthstone. It makes me really happy I never got into MTG, because I'd probably be much poorer.

I wish they would move the stupid cards up away from the bottom of the screen... as if I need to pretend I need to "pick up my hand" to see the text on the cards. Just a dumb design decision there.

My only other real issue so far is with the matchmaking... or lack thereof. If you haven't randomly given me any legendary cards yet, stop making me play against people in unranked mode with ANY legendary cards... let alone multiple! I played some guy this morning that dropped ragnaros, Ysera AND Sylvanna... He could have just told me at the beginning of the game he had those 3 cards and I could have played someone else. Yes they can still be defeated... but it's extremely unfair in most cases. Match-ups need to be based on deck strength, or at the very least... overall card collection strength.

This would eliminate the value of having the legendary cards in your deck. The perceived power of them is in their rarity.

Wish they'd add a counter for damage the current cards in play would do. Be nice so I wouldn't have to sit there screaming at the screen because the other player is a complete dumbass and can't count as they can finish me off without doing anything else.

That's part of the fun, when people miss lethal. If you're going to lose anyway you can just concede and move onto a new game.

Hearthstone is a lot of fun. It can be complex but fairly easy to get into. Seems like they've gotten rid of a lot of bugs, although I noticed at least 1 new one. Hopefully they keep updating and adding more to the game. It's great, especially for being free.

Meh, if you're wanting to get on Hearthstone and nothing else, you're opting in to B.net. Now forcing WoW and Diablo players to use B.net, THAT is more like what happened with Steam and CS. At least you can have it act as a plain old launcher like I do, and it's admittedly a bit more convenient because you can save your login info and it automatically puts that in for whatever game you start up, rather than type in your password every time.

Back when D3 launched, you couldn't even copy and paste a password into the field.. increasing the security of... no one.

This game was made for mobile, but it was a great way to get Battle.net onto peoples computers. Much like Counter Strike users had Steam forced onto them.

Game is fun, but after 100+ games I cant sit at my PC anymore to play it. Too many other, better options. But when its out for my Tab ... Also, they've only recently added Android and Windows Tab to the upcoming device options. Before it was only iPads etc.
