But 1080p is the 2K standard for television and computer monitors (and yes it's not really full 2K, just like 4K TVs (and monitors) are running 3840x2160, i.e. not really "4K").
This really, irrationally annoys me. I've come to grudgingly accept that 4K is going to refer to 3840, annoying as it's both not 4K and a switch from the referring to the vertical resolution. Now there's 2K, which doesn't fit the existing broken naming system. 2K is 1080p, if you're going to mislabel things, like 4K, at least mislabel them consistently.
I can understand a reluctance to sell a TV as 2160p. That just doesn't roll off the tongue very well and is harder for people who aren't particularly experienced to remember. I suppose just referring to it as "Ultra High Definition" is a bit vague and if I didn't know better I would be very cynical about the fancy buzzwords. Also UHD can refer to 8K too, although I doubt that's a big cause of confusion at your local electrics retailer.
3840x2160 has 4 times as many pixels as Full HD (i.e. 1080p) so how about Quad-Def?
